I just spend much of the day out of the house. Seems to be warmer outside than it is inside.

It's just a snake. :) What kind of snake was it?

Cool snake story....I used to have snakes when I was a kid. I caught plenty of them. Loved them. When my sons were younger they wanted a snake. Our local pet store wanted way too much money for a snake that the kids would probably be interested in for a couple of weeks. A friend told me that at dusk there are a bunch of garter snakes in her yard so I set up a tank and went and caught one. A few days later my wife called me at work and told me the snake had babies. It was the coolest thing and kept the kids interested for a lot longer. Those things were tiny...like...only slightly thicker than the lead in a pencil. We eventually released the wild one but we kept the babies until they got bigger. The tank had about 2 inches of sawdust in it and the snakes dug tunnels. At feeding times...when you opened the lid...about 10 or 12 little snakes popped their heads up with their mouths open...ready to attack their prey. We had a lot of fun with those snakes but let them all go outside and to this day....I have a pretty good idea of where to find one if I want to. I see them all the time in my yard in the summer. They don't bother me at all. I just let them be.

My herd of chickens finds every critter that inhabits the area here. I saw for the first time a species of snake here called a rosy boa hanging from the beak of a hen as she was preparing to choke it down for breakfast.

I've seen some videos of that kid. Damn!

I'm not going to let a little cold keep me inside all day. I think I'll go have some lunch. I need some material for my food blog anyway.

I'm going outside just long enough to cut enough wood for a couple of days and then right back inside

well at least today the truck started (yesterday had to out the charger on it)...this time i turned the key on 3 times slow to get some fuel spray before cranking....also i made sure the heater fan was off to get all the juice to starter....it stated on that last chance crank ...

also seen a school bus driver get pulled over...sirens and everything..the cop was so pissed he had to race past the guy and cut him off because the driver was ignoring him....i bet that driver losses his job over that (the bus was empty though)

so I wonder why it is I hear you guys having to go cut word to put in the fire. I put up word when the sun shines and I just go out to bring in my cut and seasoned supply. The only word I cut and split in the winter is for the next seasonm.

I'm going to cut some wood again next week or so too. But that is going to dry for at least a month first. So yeah, I kind of wondered the same... :p

In my case I was winterizing the house all summer to make it heatable during the winter. I could have gathered wood all summer and then ripped out the doors and windows during the winter.

    Stupid me.

You come here, view the situation, see what I am able to do during a days work, which lasts at a minimum 14 hours. Look at what I have had to do both to the house and in gathering firewood by myself with less than adequate tools, realize the fact that my body is disabled and much older than yours... and then rephrase that statement.

As a matter of fact one wall and all the window opennings were made of 3 mm pvc film. Had trouble that year staying warm.

yeah i got lucky once when a local golf course was expanding ...they hired a pro to lay a huge birch stand...someone i knew worked there and convinced the owner to let us haul it all away instead of burying it...all we had to do was buck and haul.....i estimate we got at least 50 cords from there all free and within a few miles from home...it did take all summer to process but that pile lasted about 4 or 5 winters
