A lot of that gets grabbed up fast by guys that sell firewood... They already have an in with the tree services so they get first dibs. Right now I need the ready to burn stuff and most of those dead Ash trees are that... If I don't get them now they will fall on their own and then I have a worse mess. If they rot, then I lose my opportunity for firewood. Some are still slightly green, they tried to leaf out this summer, and I'm bypassing those until next spring/summer. I've got some badly damaged Maples too, but mostly still green.... Next year.

I got behind on firewood because I was winterizing the house all summer, with great results I might add, and then in October when I meant to be getting wood in the water heated burst. Re-plumbing for that and the new one was special order took up that whole month... What ya gonna do? At least the house, for the most part, is very comfy compared to last year. If I could get ductwork in place the whole house would be and I'd use less wood. Stuff takes forever when you gotta do it all yourself.

Ah...I thought maybe that was it. Where I live, they call the power company and the power company sends us to do the work. That's what we specialize in. Almost all high voltage overhead work. The last place most tree guys want to live but it's what we do every day. We also do some residential and sub out to other companies for jobs that are maybe a little more dangerous than they want to handle. I think it's kind of funny that we don't spend a dime on advertising or even decals with our name on any equipment but the other residential tree companies seem to battle each other in advertising claiming to be superior to the others....and then they get some serious shit and call us to do it for them. We will do it for some but not for others.

    Indoor wood furnace...

This was the day I placed it, before the stovepipe was installed... I hadn't even put on the handles or put in the firebrick yet. I need the plenum and transition made, they sit over that square hole on top, and run the ductwork up through the crawlspace/attic yet to do. Right now it dumps the hot air into the furnace room and I blow it out through the door into the house. It's 77 degrees in here but cooler at the ends of the house.

Check out my gallery... There's more house pics in there.

Furnace/utility room looks much better now... I need new photos.

Dude that's a sweet furnace. No wonder you need all that wood!

yeah sorry I even thought it might not be called ''hydro'' there. My point though, is that if the trees can be dangerous to power lines they could end up paying for it. Whether they subcontract it out or not is irrelevant.

Who does the work is definitely relevant. It might be the difference between living and dying. I can tell you the names of men who have died doing this in my area. You need certified pros but yes...the power company may send those people to do the work and they should. But again...we are the ones they send. We are trained for it and we take it seriously. My tolerance for mistakes is....zero. We do not tolerate it it. You're supposed to be the best. Act like it. I know that I may sound like a jerk because of that but my job is to make sure that nobody gets hurt and everyone makes it home to their families. We will not tolerate mistakes. And it isn't because of any insurance issues.....its because I personally feel responsible for making sure you get to go home every night.

Everything you said it true.... I'm pretty sure he meant it would be irrelevant to me as to who cut the wood for the power company...

I had to relight the pilot on the gas fireplace tonight. I think the winds we have had blew it out. The first time I have had to do that in over 2 years of living here.

    Maybe I misunderstood that then.

One point of clarification.....when I say "zero tolerance for mistakes" I'm not talking about little things like maybe putting a chain on a saw backwards or something dumb like that. I'm talking about things that really count. We get paid by the hour and have no reason to cut corners.

    wow, that's a beast!

OK I clearly hit a nerve here, but I was talking about it being irrelevant in the sense that the people who do it are professionals either hired by or working for the electric/hydro . Whether it is the former or the latter, you're not the one paying for it or doing it yourself.

No need to get sensitive, we all understand the importance of good arborists!

You didn't hit a nerve at all. I was just rambling. Sorry to give that impression. I probably should have just made my point in a sentence or two. :)
