Its just a stain. I wanted to see how the wood would take it, since I don't have a clue what type of wood this is...and I know that matters.

I never thought of sanding it after it dries...might be a good idea with a really fine-grit sand paper.

You can apply it and wipe it off if you want a lighter effect of stain. I want to darken this piece since the wood isn't in the greatest of shape. The stain is kind of hiding the marks and/or making them look neat and weathered.

Yup, lightly with very fine grit, or rub with very fine steel wool - aside from smoothing any grain raised by the stain, it might also help if you want to lighten the stain a bit. It's nice to be able to see some wood grain.

And sealant? Polyurethane or any such? I once did an oil finish on a Danish chair - it was beautiful, but lots of work.

Yeah I always polyurethane....one thing my father taught me was to protect whatever I stain (with exception of laundry, of course)

I used polyurethane on one piece, and it was good.

For a while this stuff was my fave furniture finish - Deft semi-gloss, rubbed with extra-fine steel wool between coats to give it a matte finish:

The drawback to Deft is the fumes - they're pretty brutal. Best to do the job in the open air if possible.

Made it to Flagstaff. Checked for bed bugs and roaches before paying for room. All clear, for now..

I'm now using my first laptop, and my first free wifi connection, which is cool.

The best part is today's high was 79 F. It was 106 in Phoenix. Ha!

And I'm in a forest too! No more sweaty desert for a while, ahh.. :)

Got a unexpected free day no grandkids, so I slept in this morning...:)

My son hit a deer with his car yesterday morning on the way to work, so now he's driving one of ours until he gets his fixed...
