It's true that some doors close forever if you don't go through them at a certain point in time...however all options don't necessarily disappear if you don't jump to grab them.

I think the order of things might be more rigid in the UK than in the US...but I essentially went through two careers before settling into my third one, which didn't happen until I was 31.

My wife started a new career in her 40s. She got a Master of Divinity degree about a year ago, and now, at the age of 50, she is just now completing requirements for ordination in the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Of course I don't know what options you're wrestling with...I'm just trying to give you a bit of peace about the outcome.
