    "HeatAdvisory

Impacts -consecutive days of excessive heat can have a cumulative effect on the human body. Heat of this magnitude and duration can trigger heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. Never leave children or pets unattended in a car... Even with the windows rolled down.

    Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of dangerous heat is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create heat index readings of at least 105 degrees and very warm overnight temperatures. Drink plenty of fluids... Stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of direct sunshine. Remember... The elderly... Very young... And people with heart conditions are most at risk in extreme heat. Friends... Relatives... And neighbors should check on people who may be at risk."

"Hottest" as in "most sexually frustrated?" :D

That is obscene. And probably muggy as a steam bath, innit?

I could ride the air-conditioned train back and forth all day, except between around midnight and 5 am.

It's not that bad here, though - I think I'll be comfortable with my window fan blowing outside air in and my wind machine on my bed next to me.

And I have plenty of fluids - I just bought a case of wine. :)

Tonight I begin my two-week vacation...

Severe storm rolled through here yesterday between three and six pm. Lots of damage. Trees down, power lines. My area is not bad but around me some 200,000 people without power. We needed rain but not all the wind and damage. Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90's with high humidity all week. Going to be hard for people who can't even run a fan.

    Yes.

"Some two million people are without power after violent storms hit the region around the US capital, Washington DC."

"Another round of severe weather will develop across the Ohio Valley and track into the northern Mid-Atlantic states, where damaging winds will be the primary threat," it said on its website.

"At this time, it appears the greatest risk will stretch from southern Ohio into Maryland and northern Virginia.

It was one heck of a straight line wind, in excess of 80mph here. I was out briefly this morning and there a lot of trees and big branches down. My power went out briefly last night but was back in about 5 minutes or so. My sister, Spectacles, called earlier and hers went out this morning... Sounds like a transformer blew... Hope she gets power again soon, but it seems the power companies will be very busy throughout the region.

My post count is now 2345.

I wonder if that's good luck or something.

I'm thinking about buying some lottery tickets right now.
