An excerpt from the beginning of Finnegan's Wake, by James Joyce:

"riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs. Sir Tristram, violer d'amores, fr'over the short sea, had passencore rearrived from North Armorica on this side the scraggy isthmus of Europe Minor to wielderfight his penisolate war..."

Yeah, I see the resemblance... ;)

Weird man. Last night I was reading a book in which the author recommends the James Joyce novel 'Ulysses'. I was just reading up on it this morning.

It's true, everything I've read! My mind is the creator of the universe and you're just a figment of that creation! It's all connected. :D

I don't like that thread. But, each to their own.

Yeah, I keep meaning to do that when I'm somewhere with a decent Internet connection...but maybe the public library is not the best place for that...

I've read Ulysses. It's weird, I still don't know what I think of it really. I kind of liked it, sorta :dizzy2:

OUR mind, lunar - we get to share it. And don't forget, if you get my mind you get Deanna's too. ;)

Actually the only Joyce novel I've read is A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I'm intrigued by Finnegan's Wake, but it's a bit daunting, and I haven't had the gumption to tackle it yet.

From what I've seen, none of his books are light reading. But he did some remarkable stuff with the structuring of stories and viewpoint, and with the language.

I have my own, I don't need to look at other people's bits.

I noticed it earlier, it was strange. I wondered why you did that.

it was his use of the 'stream of consciousness' technique that had me a little perplexed. Sometimes I thought it was genius, other times I just couldn't follow it

but then, I don't think you were supposed to!

Yea, it sounds a little far out, but very cool. Apparently it's got a lot of symbolism that lends itself to Jungian ideas, which is why I'd like to read it. I'm hugely into Jung. His work on symbols and the different levels of consciousness are incredible.

I want to buy a book of his that came out a few years ago called the 'Red Book'. It's a journal full of symbols and writings that he did over a few years when he took time off his work to try and prove his theories. Apparently he went a little mad in the process, but it sounds like an incredible read. It's around $285 though.
