They do that here as well, and even have those hanging automatic feeders to lure them in. Its illegal, but somehow it gets overlooked.
I know the deer need to be thinned out, way too many of them, but it just seems like they could do it a little more humanely....:)

Why? Are they starting to band together and build weapons of mass destruction?

I once read about ted nugent..he hunts with a cross bow...i think the book was called 'the blood trail'..tells how they hunt the old fashiomed way..by stalking a prey and sneaking up until you can get a kill shot with a crossbow...seemed a bit more sporting

I don't play sports where both are not equal. If the prey also had a gun or a crossbow - then okay.

I post on another forum, and always find myself in a big debate with fundamental Christians, I need to learn that it's a waste of time.

The problem with the overpopulation is really bad at times. Not enough food supply, a lot of them are suffering from chronic wasting disease. I hate to see them starve, last winter there was almost no mast for them. They were really hungry and slowly starving, so we set out blocks of salt with vitamins specially made for deer and a lot of corn for them to eat. We saved a small herd which stayed the entire winter mostly on our farm. Food water for them from our pond.
Kinda turned into a winter project for us. Nature will take what ever course it wants though. I know you can't save the world....:)

Not to be a stickler here, but would you think it was sporting if someone was sneaking up on you and killing you with a crossbow?

Killing things, should never be considered a sport or 'sporting' in my opinion.

They are a part of a cycle, that we have already done our level best to fuck right up. The reason there is an overpopulation (where you are), is because the predators have been wiped out.

But, that is still irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, because nature does a very good job of rebalancing itself when we stop fucking with it.

Too many deer? The predator numbers would rise to deal with it, until the balance shifted the other way and the predators started to die off due to a lack of prey... then the prey (the deer) would rebound in numbers, until there were 'too many' again, and then the cycle continues on.

Everytime we step in and decide that we are capable of changing the balance of nature according to our whims of the day, we throw it all even further out of balance.

I like to compare it all to how earthquakes work... As long as the forces are balanced on both side of the fault, things are okay... when an uneven pressure starts, the pressure build and builds until it 'snaps' and re balances itself...

Worse earthquakes, tornadoes and various other natural disasters lately? Perhaps the earth is trying harder to re-balance itself?

I have never fired a gun or an arrow...never even thrown a rock at an animal...BUT..big but lol....people have been hunting since cave man times...there is a difference between tracking a deer and just sitting until they come for bait...i dont support either ....but if I had to choose:devil:it would be the lessor of 2 evils...

    I didn't think you hunted.

That, nor any of the rest of your post, doesn't change that it isn't sport, or sporting to sit back with either a gun, a bow, or a slingshot and kill an unsuspecting animal.

What do we call that when someone does it to a human? Picks a spot where they can hide and then starts killing people off at range?

Is it still a sport if its the human animal?

*added* Come to think of it... I have an easier time considering it a sport if it was hunting certain humans....

no matter what the weapon...are you sure?

    what about this weapon?
...haha..i was searching for a pic of a fishing rod and i stumbled on this
    [IMG]

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina authorities said a fishing crook never had a chance to land the big one. Police told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg a robber tried to steal money bags from a bank’s night deposit drop box using fishing line and hooks.
Authorities said employees at a First Citizen’s Bank in Orangeburg found a fishing hook in a bag last Friday morning and at least two other hooks in the box. One hook still had a small piece of fishing line attached.
The bank said it has security footage of the would-be angler.
Police said the crook’s task was impossible because the night deposit boxes are set up with trap doors so that once bags are dropped in, they can’t be taken out the same way.

Which part was that to? lol

Is it sporting to catch fish? No... Is it sporting if you toss the fish back? HELL NO... (

I have to take an interlude to go on a specific rant here... lol

that last one blows me away.... we're going to jam a piece of steel into your lip, yank you out of your house, hold you underwater for a while, and then toss you back... But don't sweat it... we're just funnin ya.... :)

... okay back to where I was... lol

I have no problem with hunting an animal or fishing in order to get food to eat, or in raising animals to eat. But to think that killing of any type is a sport? Seriously? What the fuck is wrong with people?

So, I figured it would be sorta cool to have the while pirate chicken thing on video... it happened the same way over and over again... I even started encouraging the chicken by letting it eat food from the bowl while it was on my shoulder...

So I take the video camera to get it today...

Damn chicken missed and bounced off my elbow...

My husband has been snoring like a dinosaur for the past two hours, since I've been awake. Why have I been awake since 7:30 this morning? Take a guess. - I absolutely hate his snoring. Sigh.

Bear meat sounds interesting. I don't think I'd ever eat it, but it makes me wonder. . . what would bear meat taste like? For some reason, I keep getting this idea in my head that it would taste like barbecue.
