I like the compost heap theory best. But really, I don't get why so many people get so down on RT, even RTers themselves - it's rather odd to me, as a lot of cool peeps find their ways here, and a lot of rather .. interesting things are said. But I tend to be rather good at skimming...
Reasons why RT is hated: A) We're not super-spiritual B) We don't buy into fads which died in the 60s C) We call shit for what it is D) Nothing is sacred E) We think for ourselves F) Our shit stinks In other words, we're like the horrible grey cloud called "reality" that looms on the horizon of the magical land of rainbows, tie dye and fairydust.
Ahaha. I think that about sums it up actually. I wonder if I have rep left =D I always felt that most RTers have a sort've punk edge to them minus the silly and typically misguided causes. Do hippies like punks? I know many punks aren't fond of hippies..
Well, in the past, when things have gone wrong, RT has just gone... That makes it pretty easy to point fingers and call the folks that hang out in here a major percentage of the time "trouble makers." Sad, but true...
One wouldn't think, but when folks like me can get banned and labeled a Trouble Maker, for posting a question regarding who all had been banned, and why ~ i was curious, and one of the issues was Free Speech, so i wEndered ~ imho, that sort of smacks of anyone that chooses to hang out here being presumed a TM, until proven otherwise. Unless, of course, you feel like i truly AM a Trouble Maker, in which case, maybe it IS 'cuz the TM's hang out here.
Yes, we are generally grouped together and held collectively responsible for the actions of a few people, which is even more outrageous than saying that ALL Germans were responsible for the holocaust. They categorize because having to think ethically and without bias, and consider members of the more "troublesome" forums as a singular "them" instead of an organic, complex mass of individuals with different personalities, would simply be inconvenient.
Beautiful post, as usual. There are basically two types of people on this Earth: those who get irony and those who don't.
I also like the "compost" analogy. Being new to HF, and initially coming to the internet in '96 with the goal of "rising above" the mundaneness of my existence in a town/world/environment not know for its intellectual prowess, or its propensity for either intelligent thought or meaningful investigation of deep subjects. AND having a background both in the sciences and more practical technologies, as well as the enjoyment of all things musical, whether under the influence of a smoke or a chemical, or not,,, I tend here, to seek out personal intellectual and emotional involvement with others in a random, general way, since I have yet to choose in what manner I PREFER to approach the forums available here. Thusly, of a necessity, my manner of usage is that I open the browser, check messages, if any, check new posts, and sometimes, my old posts. I tend to randomly interact, with the goal of expressing that which I believe to be either helpful, humorous, or challenging. Actually, my personality prefers the random approach, at least at this time, since I am not focusing on a specific investment that I feel would be most beneficial to all, having just arrived. So,,I see nothing wrong with RT, its usage, or its purpose. It's "compost". Good term.
I think this is a great approach. I do something similar, though I probably have a more defined style by now.
I think RT serves a useful purpose, a place of complete freedom to let go and say what you want, without feeling like you have to abide by some stupid rules, or big brother is watching you. It is a palace for all of us to banish our demons, to purge our filthy minds and purify our souls.
Close to the truth. I think it is more like hell -- the place where all the most interesting people end up.
not at all dude. a) this doesnt matter at all b) yeah but you buy into fads which are alive in 2009 c) you call shit for what you want to call it, just like every other forum d) "Fuck everything" attitude is so infantile and annoying e) LOL f) yeah and you sure love to spend all day throwing it at each other the problem with RT is that it's like walking into a frat party, you try and say anything thats not something that the cool kids have said, and you are ridiculed mercilessly, usually by people who's egos make you nauseous across the vastness of the internet. this is the high school of forums.
So, free speech doesn't apply to egotistical assholes? Is that a new Supreme Court ruling? That could be a problem for me.
i eat meat, wear shoes, have normal hair,i believe we went to the moon, dont take oxys, live ON the grid....where else do i fit in...nowhere edit...i forgot...i'm not weird sexually either
We have ridiculously long philosophical discussions about things so abstract as to render any talk about it completely pointless, and we look stupid as a result. Most of us are complete nerds and proud of it. Most of us dig at ourselves as much as we dig at other people. I haven't followed a fad since 1992, and last but not least, we're honest. We mercilessly joke about the fact that we are indeed assholes and that people like you feel the need to come here in order to tell us exactly what we already know. Of course I wouldn't expect anybody pretentious enough to call themselves Mr. Writer, endowed, I must add, with what seems to be a Grade 11 standard of English would understand any of that, or the type of people we are. The fact is, fitting in here is not about being cool, its about not actually caring about whether you fit in or not.
no...no. Stoners Lounge is the toilet. that's where I sent the majority of the really stupid threads...sometimes the dread forum for the lulz
