George Zimmerman punched after ‘bragging’ about Trayvon Martin case

ORLANDO, Fla. — George Zimmerman says he was punched in the face after talking about the Trayvon Martin case at a Sanford-area restaurant over the weekend, officials said.

Zimmerman said he was ordering food at Gators Riverside Grille Sunday evening when he walked by a table with several people and complimented a man’s Confederate flag tattoos, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, Joseph Whitmer, thanked him and asked “aren’t you that guy.” Zimmerman said yes and pulled out his ID to prove who he was.

Whitmer asked about the Trayvon Martin case and as Zimmerman started to explain that he fatally shot the unarmed teen in self-defense, another man walked up and asked “You’re bragging about that?”
Zimmerman told that man he wasn’t but the man said “you better get the (expletive) out of here,” a report shows.

Several minutes later, the man, who was only identified as Eddie, walked over to his table and said, “Didn’t I tell you to get the (expletive) out of here, (expletive) lover?”

Zimmerman told the man he wasn’t looking for any trouble and that’s when the man punched him in the face, breaking his glasses.


Several witnesses told deputies a slightly different version about what happened.

Whitmer’s wife said Zimmerman approached them while they were eating and said “Hey, I like your racist tattoos,” records show. He then told them about killing Martin “to brag,” a report states.

College Student Kills Couple, Found Biting Face of Victim

A 19-year-old student fatally stabbed a couple in their garage in Florida Monday night and was biting the dead man's face when officers subdued him, authorities said Tuesday.

Police believe Florida State University student Austin Harrouff attacked the couple at random shortly before 9:20 p.m. using "weapons of opportunity," and also wounded a neighbor who attempted to intervene, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told reporters at a press conference.

The sheriff's office responded to the home in Tequesta after a neighbor called 911, and a deputy found Harrouff on top of the male victim's body in the driveway biting off pieces of his victim's face, Snyder said.

"It's inexplicable," Snyder said. "One of the first things we try to do at a crime scene is try to understand the motive of the offender, because it is the motive of the offender that gets us going in the right direction. In this case, we can't establish a motive."

Snyder said Harrouff was making "animal like sounds" after he was arrested and was incoherent. The bites caused substantial trauma to the victim's body, Snyder said.
