its not govt handouts to provide free lunces for kids who belong to poor families, its not govt handouts to allow economically disadvanteged children to attend schools as good as rich ones...u call it govt handouts, i call it federal duty... u guys seem like cool people. i urge u to consider anarco-syndicalism its a form of govt where theres no govt socially and even economically but people work together and share teh benefits (like on a kabutz(spelling???)) its like socialist economic principles with liberatarian social policies

Society is made of individuals. Individuals think with individual minds. There is no collective mind, just various individual mindsets. These individuals can think for themselves or choose to trade that freedom for a nanny state who chooses for them. Today "society" is formed by the attempt to socialize thought and force the people to believe that the government knows "what is best" for you with laws against victimless crimes and over-extended policies and regulations. The government is involved in every aspect of your life: your money, your property, your sex life, your food, your drugs, etc. Through compulsory taxation, over-regulation, and more social laws to "equal" everyone (which doesn't work and never has) the government does essentially control you, yet allows you the illusion of freedom and the illusion of security within your little box. All libertarianism is about is simply reducing the amount of government control in your life and allowing you to control your own property (including your body), your own choices and your own life.
and as "neat" as that sounds, its results in chaos, we need some government or else the big guys whether physically or economically take everything... luberatarianism jsut seems to selfish, have u read ayn rand, i hope ur not a fan or hers... for complete equlity we need redistribution b/c of there are selfish bastards out that hoping to take advantage, we call them republicans, there needs to be some regulation, i shudder to think where we would be if there was no regulation or taxes or anything, and each person decided(or it would turn out to be each rich person decided for his employees whats right, and just. i do believe we had a period like that once, with no fed govt., it we call it fuedalism

Redistribution would never work because people are different. Some would do more than others and there would wind up being another class altogether. Besides redistribution by a "collector" is COERCION, not freedom. Do you believe in equality at the cost of freedom? What is more important to you, liberty or that everyone is equal. The "equality" is a myth, "collective consciousness" is the myth, not individualism. The only thing equal should be equal protection under the Constitution, not invented institutions to force "equality". People are not sheep, they are thinking beings.

We should move this argument to the Politics forum. The poor would be better off under Libertarianism than the current mess. We can do more for the poor by replacing inefficient government programs with effective voluntary assistance.
