i didnt get horrible brown icky water when i did the cleanse either, dont fret =] as for the smell.. could it be damp? i never blow dry dreads, i just leave them to air dry
no, definately not damp... iv had dreads before, so, i know the dangers of leaving them wet, so, very careful about that.... i dunno. maybe i need to try more baking soday in the rinse next time.... i also had no tea tree, just used the lemon juice, soda, and salt.... we'll work out the kinks yet
mmm. i dont use bronners so i dont know anything about that =] dunno what else it could be, i am useless
mmmmmmmm well with the first 2 sets of dreads i used KBoy 'poo bar and a helluva lot of wax, backcomb, palmroll, root rubbing, crocheting, sewing, blah blah blah. they were fucked. this current set.. backcombed, no wax, no nothing. intended to wash with bicarb, tea tree and sea salt but yesterday i used the KBoy bar, because i love it so. i might alternate between the two, but i cant quite decide yet but yes. its prolly paranoia
yeah, my first and second set got the whole KB treatment as well. but i think the worst was that i never really stopped using the wax. i slowed down, but i didn't stop.... and yeah. they were EFF'd as well... these ones had wax the first day and that was it. it all came out pretty easily. i used the wax remover soap from KB and then i used drugstore brand clarifying shampoo, i never intended to use it past the initial lockup. i had to work, i couldn't go with a headful of frizz.... anyways... they're tightening up FANTABULOUSLY, but.... not sure about the washing thing.... i'm trying to be so careful and thorough... i have most of a bar of KB soap left too, but i don't really use it.... and i have like, 5 bars of dr. bronners.... sigh.... oh well, what can you do, eh? loved the way the soda rinse made my hair soft though, so i'll try it again. more soda next time for sure, and we'll see what happens... what i'm smelling could simply be that i have a feather pillow, or that i have a wood burning stove in the house... it's probably just absorption from regular household odors...
very possible a few drops of any pils to the cleanse or a rince and it will help bhtw wgoys wax removal soap says right on it in slmall print "not strong enough to remove wax from dreads"
bhtw wgoys wax removal soap says right on it in slmall print "not strong enough to remove wax from dreads"[/QUOTE] yes, i realize this, but i also know the difference between no wax and wax rinsing out due to the fact that i've had dreads with and without wax.... i used it till it was gone and used some harsher shampoos as well... it's all out definately going to try some essential oil though. just have to get my hands on some. next time i see mum. she's an aromatherapist. your dreads look wicked SE!
your lucky to have a mom like that then and i peeked at yoir pic too very adorable theres an herbs for your headthread, u may wannaq concider some that are both aromatic and medicinal that address any conditions u may have (oiliness dryness itches and so on) \ do me a fave though, take a real deep whiff and try to describe the smell as good as u can, maybe we can try to guess what it may be
well, at first it sorta smells... dusty (?) sorta, but then if you sniff longer it almost has a sweet smell.... it SORTA smells like the dry soap bar... but kinda not... i don't know how to explain it, it's not a DIRTY smell, just a weird smell....
hmm u said u used baking soda sea salt and lemon juice no oils at all, and your water has a high iron content? the water itself has a scent maybe? i mean when u start a shower and get it steamy does it have a lil scent? hers a guess, i may be wrong, but it maybe the combo of the water minerals, the baking soda and lemomn juice not being rinced well enough try not using the lemion, insread add any oils teatree rosemary whatever, (just a lil especialy teatree) and rincde twice as long i wonder if u can also get a filter to remove some of thye iron, i dunno i doubt the iron particles are super tinty so like a cheapo filter might do the trick
i definately don't think the iron in the water helps. it's well water... we have to get an iron eater put on... but, i'm going to get some tea tree for sure... and i think i might just take a break from the soap bar altogether, just go straight soda solution and see if that helps. i suspects its just a combination of everything... the water, the soap, the smells in the air.... it's not a GROSS smell, it's just different than what i'm used too.... also, it didn't really start smelling like that until i started using Dr. Bronner's, so maybe it's just the soap??? hmmmmm.....
u said u use the unscented bronners? never tried it so couldnt tell ya and in your pm u say they cook alotta pork in the house, that alone id think could make em smell like ..well..roadkill i remember we had a family reunion thing..and they had a pig roast..grossest smelling thing ever.. and it was everywhere.. 1/2 the family i hadnt seen in a decade or more but i just couldnt stand to be there so had to sneak off far into the woods, (had to go nearly 1/2 mile away to escape the stench) and when i got home even though i avoided it as much as i possibly could that sickening smell was in my dreads making me neasueas all night.... if theyre cooking something gross like that u might just wanna go outside or at least get as far away from it as u can
yeah. they're meat eaters and they cook jerky and sausage and ribs, and, yeah... all that good* stuff all the time... i DEFINATLEY think that's part of the problem. it sooo grosses me out. unfortuneatley, when it's -40 outside, going outdoors while the guys are cooking, is not really an option... yeah, i use the dr. bronner's unscented "baby mild" formula soap bar. i really like it, it lathers up like crazy, and i feel clean afterwards, but, i'm thinking maybe it's leaving some residues behind.... i think i'm paranoid more than anything.... LOL!
well like we talked bout in pm. its very possibly the blow drying, (re-explaining for the benifit of others) blow dryers get dust in em, prolonged blow drying burns the dust giving the hair a burnyt dust smell. i suggested doing it at a lower heat, or in scvattered shorter busts..blow quickkly a min or 2 wait a bit blow lil more, let it be like an assisted air dry, just blow the damper spots quickly
doing this at the moment, its hella itchy if you have a rash like i do, i would not suggest it if you happen to have one, will post an update once its done
Youd be pleased to know that im oficially wax free, becauase i stopped using it and just dipped them in boiling hot water, worked like a charm
is it possible to store this mixture (in the fridge or pantry?) for a few days? or will it mess with the potency?
