that's pretty fucked up about your friend, sallysmart. i'm just thinking though (with all the benefit of hindsight that your friend did not have), if someone started speeding a car that you were in the passenger seat of...do you think you could stomp on the brake pedal? what about slam the car into park if it's an automatic? what do you guys think?
To put it into park, the brake has to be pressed down. You could slip it into neutral and try to wrestle with the guy for the steering wheel until you slowed down enough, but that would probably take a while.
He was a kid and I didn't see the car but now a days most cars have a console in the middle. I don't know how much time he had before they went off, some specifics I didnt ask but I do know he was around 18 then and still doesn't drive today so I don't know how much he would have known then about what to do.
interesting... I thought about the same thing. So one thing to consider is the possibility that the guy isn't serious or won't go through with it, or that you could talk him out of it. Taking control of a vehicle away from a driver would involve a certain amount of risk, so ideal to avoid it. If he's already up to insane speeds, there wouldn't be time. Just fighting him for control of the car could be difficult. I'd say elbow to the throat or strike to the balls as hard as you can, then try to get control of the wheel and the brake. You could also try pulling the emergency brake I suppose, but very risky. The emergency brake controls the rear brakes on most cars, but the front brakes on some. I suppose that you could spin out or flip pretty easily. Also most vehicles are front wheel drive, but some rear and AWD. You'd have a pretty good chance of getting your hands on the brake though, and once you've pulled it it's locked, so at least you'd be slowed down while you fight for control. The car guys might have some good input about the emergency brake thing, I don't know if that would be a good idea or not.
yeah, sally i totally didn't mean that to come off as "your friend should have gotten control of the car." that's not cool. but it makes me wonder what i would do in that situation. a lot of times you don't end up doing what you "thought" you would anyways...
Tis totally ok, something to be examined for sure. I think I would sucker punch him and yank his leg off the gas and steer till it slowed down... Still not sure tho till I end up in the same situation.
i would hope the guy wasn't wearing his seatbelt. then i would stab him in the neck, open his door and shove him out. yeah, that's definitely what i would do.
too much work and too much time to open the door and throw him out. you would just need to incapacitate him enough so that he couldn't fight you for control of the car. you could likely get prosecuted for using excessive force if you threw him out, even if the cops bought your story. also, he'd be a road hazard for other people.
I'd stab for the throat rather than the neck too. He could fight you if he was bleeding, but not if he couldn't breathe.
hello?! stab to the neck! that hits the throat too. they are basically one in the same i ain't stickin' around for the cops. not my main concern :mickey:
well, I guess in principle you could stab someone in the neck but not the throat. man, mofo's in the ROC iz hard
You make me wonder how much actual stabbing experience either of you have. In the heat of the moment I'm sure it would be how well you were able to assess the situation for a viable opening rather than trying to figure out the most ideal placement. Neck and throat stabs leave the possibility of murder or attempted murder charges. I think I would only be sure of what I would do if I knew all the other factors such as if the car was automatic or standard and if it was a consol shifter or column shifter, if the park brake was a lever or a pedal and if the driver was wearing their seatbelt or not.
