Minxes is eating more than I have ever seen her eat before now...it took awhile for her mouth to heal though, but must be all healed since yesterday....so YAY!...maybe this damn stomatitis is gone for good now...keeping my fingers crossed...It is so nice to see her not in pain for once..... Spanky had dental work on him done today....another cat......but did not have to have any teeth removed as previously thought he would. He just had terrible gingivitis, so his procedure was just a cleaning today, and he is home now and doing well, too....
With Minxy's constant pain gone, i think a new cat is emerging....she is calmer...not as frenzied....she may put on a few pounds and be somthing other than a skeleton with fur on her, and she seems more mellow and affectionate....this is only the beginning of her new evolvement.........It will be interesting to see what happens....a different cat is alrady emerging so soon....Thought this was an interesting observation... anyway...wish i could change the title of this thread to recovering Minxy now....
glad to hear things are going well with Minxy. it always gives me a different perspective when I see things get old, they begin to carry more and more pain and suffering and eventually the only humane thing to do is to put them down. I know Minxy is not old, but this happens to us as well. when people get old they get more and more miserable and by the time they are old enough to die I'd imagine that death is a welcome thought seeing how miserable people can become in their last years.
I just found this thread...and read the entire thing with much interest. Minxy looks like my precious little (crossed over) Cream Puff looked. Even until the very end, and Cream Puff didn't live but a little more than 1 1/2 yrs, she was the sweetest tempered cat I've ever had. Stubborn and sweet. I loved reading this good story.
I am in the process of setting up and appointment with a new holisrtic vet for Minxy. Wow, there are many steps one has to go through to get this vet. Minxy may not be able to see her for two weeks or so, as she is on vacation. In the meantime, Minxy did something to her right foot today...It has doubled in size, and i think she broke a bone. She was outside doing acrobatics and then came in limping with her paw in the air.....and favoring it all day, and it is not getting any better...only worse....so i guess she needs to see the old vet I have had tomorrow. I have no idea what they do for a cat's broken bone, though.....in a foot.
Relief......Minxy is normal again today, so cancelled with vet. It was funny...i first thought...hmmmm....did she get stung by a bee, as I saw she was playing with something small in the yard...and i thought, let's wait to see if the swelling goes down in a few hours.....and it didn't for 12 hours...so that is when I thought of a worse scenario...so today....swelling is gone, she is running around again...but inside she stays for now!
That's the first thing I thought--a bee. The little bugger has sure gone through a lot! You, dear--are a gem for taking such good care of her.
I love her so much, Scratcho.....i want her to live a long time.......if something were to happen to her, I may have to be committed on this one. She fills the house with such a big spirit....even Stan said she has the biggest spirit here now....and Champy was when he was here....Champy had that also.....but I expected he was going to die for quite some time. Minxy is too young....so I will do everything for her.....not that i would not do anything for any of the others, but i worry about Minxy the most now. thank you for your kind words.....
You're very welcome. It's obvious the world needs more like you. The widespread mistreatment of animals should be a national scandal. Since I don't go to California to work any more--I'm considering the pound for some kitties or maybe grown. I could not depend on anyone taking care of the one I have when I was gone. Her name is Peaches and she was going to the pound--so I took her a few years back.
Finally got an appointment with this new vet for the beginning week of August...there is still a book to fill out about her.....and they want a photo of me with the new pet, too?...and then having my old vet send all of the transcripts to this new vet. my vet will be perplexed...but I will just tell her, i want to try holistics for Minxy...that's all.........and people that work with this new vet said this new vet has helped cats with stomatitis....so that was good to hear. I will keep you updated here.
OMG, I am in love with my new holistic vet!...and so is Minxy, and vet loves Minxy, as well....what an amazing, awesome, intelligent vet.....that is like a refreshing glass of water after so much bull shit...listening to someone make so much sense is so rare these days........She is also a triatholon athlete, who drives a motorcycle and is in the best physical shape imagineable..... Minxy will be on homeopathic treatments for a month here, and will have a follow up in a month to see if it is working, or something needs to be changed...... This vet does not believe in any vaccinations for any animals after 18 months for rabies...she said after that one, it is in the system, and no more is ever needed....and that constant vaccinating can make animals accutely ill.....and I wondered why Oscar got so sick.....grain free diet for all pets always......She said soon all vets will know that constant vaccinations will be a thing of the past like blood letting. she is so amazing. I am high on life right now...hope for Minxy.....! and I am getting one of the pugs there, ASAP....and learn all there is to about them as well...i don't want to go to my old vet anymore at all...... I am in with new vet for anyone now....
Thank you, Aeri, and for anyone who ever gets a new puppy or kitten, not getting them neutered or spayed until one year old , is what she advises.....for things in the system to be of full maturity first. She spent about 2 hours with us and Minxy, and talked about many things.....The appointment was not rushed. She had Minxy's carrying case on her desk at first, and spoke to us, and then she looked at minxy when Minxy came out of the case on her own, and was on the desk with the vet the entire time..... She said all of these unneccessary vaccinations are what she thinks is causing things like stomatitis in more cases than ever these days. Minxy was given many shots and was neutered before we even adopted her at 8 months old....when she had already developed the stomatitis.....Someone threw her away...... There were no other patients there before us or after us.....All the attention and focus was on Minxy for 2 hours and the vet also spent that time really getting to know her....her personality, etc....She said buff colored females are a rarity, as the color is usually male...yes, I have had two male cats in buff color. I learned so much today, and wish i could just go work for this vet for free, for an education, but she is just a little too far away for that....
Awwwhhhh...this vet just sent and email and an e-card welcomming us to her holisitc family and welcoming us as friends, too....and you could just feel the warmth and love in her wordings....and she also told me I better take good notes about Minxy because she will ask! lol...she has a sense of humor, too....she does not know me yet...i am as thorough about everything as they come..... I sent a card back saying we are going to set something up for Einstein pug, soon, too....and I sent her all the warmth and love back and told her she is the best out there. and that we feel very lucky to have found her. Now, why is not all health care such as this?
Well, this is alot of fun.......Buy epensive no grain cans of cat food, and minxy won't touch it....She wants the cereal garbage cans that she is used to....homeopathic remedies have been ordered and are not here yet, and will be in liquid form to put on her food....as no on can get anything in her mouth without a blood fight, with me the one bleeding.....I say.....eventually she will get hungry enough and eat this food...no can do...she just gets thinner.....Vet says she has no muscle mass....so what am I supposed to do here? Grain free is part of the cure, and what pets need to eat anyway......I am at my wits end....and do not know what to do.
