nakedtreelover you are right on again...I am a firm believer in changing the world in small ways. I see it everyday where I work ( cashier / clerk in a pharmacy ). At first it started out as a personal experiment. You can smile and be polite to somebody and make no difference at all. Then you can smile at somebodies inner spirit and be polite to them as you honour their "inner spirit being" and just watch the difference. It has to come from the heart. But you already know that LOL....
I've been a Reiki master for about 13 yrs. now and have had some amazing experiences with it. Along with an undeniable awareness of heat radiating from my hands I can feel the flow of energy. I can detect when energy is blocked, and can often detect where it's blocked without being told. While doing Reiki I can tell when it is flowing and when it stops, and I can also sense when I need to change the placement of my hands to a different part of the body. I've done it for years and years, for believers and skeptics alike, and have never had someone tell me they couldn't feel it. My ex-husband was a huge skeptic initially and in no time at all he was coming to me to ask me to do it for him for his sciatica problem. Sometimes when I'm out in public I will sense that someone around me needs it and will direct it outward. During a Reiki healing I've had people laugh, cry, become nauseated, get very relaxed to the point of falling asleep, and overall come out very refreshed and rejuvenated. Because of having gone through the Reiki attunements I've become much more intuitive and open to the awareness of energy in general. Right now in conjunction to Reiki I'm also doing another form of energy healing that is similar to Accupuncture, working with the meridian centers in the body. I like this method really well and it's been VERY successful for all kinds of physical/mental/emotional issues. I find that the combination of Reiki and this other healing method is very effective. Reiki by itself can be very helpful and really doesn't require other things, but I often use visualization techniques and guided meditation while doing it. I tend to work with color and visual images quite a bit. I also like to use crystals, incense & soft music while practicing... it sets a nice overall ambiance for the healing session.
ditto what bluesafire said. I've been involved with Reiki now for 5 years and I've had some pretty neat stuff happen with it. People that I treat often display the symptoms stated above in bluesafire's post, including treatments I give to myself. My mom was somewhat skeptical and I almost had to stop giving her a treatment because my hands got so hot they were burning her. Now she just thinks I'm a witch doctor... go figure. Part of my treatment recommendation for people is that they remove all metal from their body and if they have anything implanted they let me know because of the amount of heat generated sometimes burns could be very possible.
Actually I think that people often overlook the power of energy work as a healing tool. I'm in the middle of massage school and the teacher constantly makes comments about reiki and how it's innefective or not real work or any of a hundred other thoughts and disdainful feelings she throws around because of disbelief. I think what people don't realize is that when you connect with a force such as reiki you're touching source, you're becoming one with creation and literally anything is possible. We are a manifestation of consciousness and as such become whatever it is we need in any given moment. Mikoa Usui treated many burn victims in a massive fire following an earthquake in the early 1920's. It's well documented that he and his students saved lives possibly numbering in the hundreds because of the work they did, Reiki. I've had tremendous and amazing physical things happen while I was working on people. Jesus did this stuff, Buddha did this stuff, Usui did this stuff... I can do this stuff. You can do this if you want to and you open yourself up the reality and possibility of who you are. Reiki is a legitimate and powerful healing tool. Meaning you can eradicate problems that previously existed. You can heal the body of things. You can quicken or promote cellular repair. You can work with and outside of space and time as most people perceive them. It's just something to think about in a world that makes you pay and tears you open and apart to do things that usually just make you sicker. Medicine should be about making you whole, not making you into holes.
I love Reiki as a tool! But honestly I feel that healing is beyond the tool that is used. Healing is... intent. It is clarity, willingness, and allowing.
Since you're familiar with A Course In Miracles, I'll put it in those terms. Healing is done not by us, but with a little willingness, when any two are joined together for the purpose of healing, the Holy Spirit enters the union. And so, healing is done when the readiness and willingness is there, by the Holy Spirit in what is called the Holy Instant. The form of the healing practice doesn't really matter. There isn't anything particularly special about it, except when directed by the Holy Spirit it is useful for that particular time, in that particular way, for that particular person(s).
oh yeah I totally agree. And most of the time when I experience those radical miraculous moments it's not using reiki. It's like filling with that raw source-ness and then pretty much anything can happen. I was just using reiki as an example because it's out and about in the world more than some other things. and with reiki I've experienced a total cessation of energy with a client before. They just wouldn't feel the energy, didn't want to open or experience it. So in that situation, nothing happened. Willingness.... I think a lot of people have problems with that. Some clients have radical results, others might not. I know it's been tough for me at times in my healing when somebody just doesn't seem to have many or any positive effects not to take it personally as my fault as a poor healer. And yeah actually most of this stuff started happening to me after I started ACIM. Apparently in that community "miracles" are quite common. Although honestly the peace of mind I have from it definitely outweighs the flashier stuff.
hey jrnyman, I hear you when you speak of that cessation of energy with a client. I've actually "heard" an absolute No! or Not right now! before I even get started. It baffles me, "cause, you know, I think to myself, who wouldn't want to be healed. Maybe the illness serves some purpose that I just don't quite understand. Anyhow, at those times I just intend for that healing to move on to somebody who really wants it or needs it but can't either (a) afford it or (b) has no one to pray for them. The forgotten ones you know. There are so many.....
I've grappled with that too. But then if we take it personally when it doesn't seem to work it's probably likely that we'll take it personally when it does work too. Both are examples of ego stepping in and taking credit, or assuming control. It's a good opportunity to recognize that "we" don't have anything to do with it one way or another, we're just a channel. Besides.... we really don't know when it does or doesn't work... appearances can be deceiving & the healing session may have contributed something on a deep level beyond the person's conscious awareness. When a gift is truly given it will be received, maybe not necessarily in that moment... but will be held in trust, so to speak, for when he or she is ready to receive it. It says that in the Course somewhere. We don't have to be concerned with how or when the gift will be received, just do our part and then get out of the way.
In another healing modality that I use this is called Secondary Benefits, where on some level the person is benefiting from keeping the issue in place. It could be fear of something that would take place once this issue is gone, resulting in a change of some sort, that the person isn't ready for. Another thing I noticed is that sometimes a person's ego is very identified with the illness (or issue) itself, so that removing it feels like removing a huge part of themselves. For example if someone has chronic headaches and they've had chronic headaches for most of their life, they may gain attention from others from constantly complaining about their chronic headaches. The ego is then energized and enlarged from this occupation, even if it's negative. In a sense the ego feels "more than" through suffering, and so there's a big identification with the suffering self (via headaches) in order to feel "more than". This is something that is very deeply seated and unconscious. Imagine trying to offer a healing for the chronic headaches, when beneath the surface there's this deeply rooted identification and resistance to change. It's unlikely anything will shift on the surface. This is why using intuition is very good in the healing arts. Sometimes we can sense what's going on beneath the surface and focus on that. For example, if we can identify the underlying point of resistance (in this case identification with the suffering self) then we can work directly on THAT level when doing a healing. Does that make sense? Usually the willingness to heal arises when there's been so much suffering that we just can't take it anymore. Depending on the person (we humans very stubborn lol!) the suffering may have to be dramatically intense. We can see that in the world around us... many people won't wake up until some huge disaster enters their life that would intensify their suffering to the point of surrender. And even that isn't guaranteed... the ego can use even that as a means of getting bigger, identifying more and more with the suffering. But at least there's a chance...
Yes that totally makes sense, bluesafire. I know of people like this who hang onto their illnesses. They can ask for advice, you can make suggestions but they don't seem to follow up on it. Thanks......
I'm into spiritual healing on a small scale, which is quite similar to reiki in many ways, the main difference is that reiki gives a set form, whilst what I do is more intuitive, and varies from person to person. My own take on it all is that the healing energy is there in everyone. A healer is simply a chanel. It is a question often of just making a little opening to the power - giving the healing energies a chance to manifest. From my side, it not that it's 'me' who does anything. It's more a question of getting out of the way and just being open to the flow of the energy. I wouldn't charge anyone for healing, but if they want to give something, that is fine.
Agreed BlackBill....I also believe that everyone has the power to heal, and also like you I do not charge for healing. My 2nd degree Reiki was given to me as a gift.Mind you I am not against charging for healing, it's just not my way.....
Windy - One justification I've heard for charging is that people only value that which they pay money for. I think in the case of some types, that might be true. But generally, they'd probably be people who weren't open minded enough to try energy healing anyway. I have been to seminars on spiritual/natural healing, and I've never been asked to pay - although one can make a donation. I have also recieved much healing free of charge - although I would always give something. I prefer to keep it on a 'donate what you like' basis. I'd rather be given a nice drawing or something similar than cash in many cases. But I work only with friends and family mainly, so often it doesn't really come up. Shanti.
Yes BlackBill that is what I was told when first initiated to Reiki....that people value it more when there is some sort of payment. I was sending my own sort of healing years before my Reiki initiation, but as I said earlier in this thread, I thought Reiki gave me a little extra oomph LOL. I also only work with friends, family and aquaintences. I never tell them I am sending healing and so again payment doesn't enter into it. Well, maybe I shouldn't say that. Especially in family, there is always a natural give and take so I always get paid back some way or another.....
blackbill.... i do intuitive healing as well, and it feels like we do a similar thing. nice to know there are others out there! i'm looking forward to at some point getting the reiki training so i can do healing as a way of supporting myself eventually... as healing, energywork, bodywork... they all fit so well with my way of life and lifestyle that i'm finding it increasingly difficult to do anything else... like normal regular jobs to pay the bills. which is why i would at some point charge for my "healing services." but at this point i also do it for free and only work on people i have relationships with. but feeling the flows of energy and working with them becomes such a deep part of every aspect of life, soon it becomes hard to do anything else, lol! at least that's what i've found.
I hesitate to ask, and yet it seems there are so many people with healing energies who want to help...so I will ask. Please when you think of it, if you haven't already, send some healing energy in my direction. I think maybe I'm getting past some old scars, but I would be grateful if any healers would like to help me forge ahead...thank you so much. With love to all, Richard
