Just to give in my two cents, most religious individuals such as Jesus had no intention to turn their 'beliefs' into big political and economical control acts. It wasnt til 4 centuries after Christ that the Roman Empire Constantin decided to make Christianism the official religion seeing the profit they could make from it. Before that Christians (mostly poor people and women) were killed in games in front of thousands of citizens. All Jesus was for was love and charity, promoting that every individual is equal to God. Also stating that after death there is a new life, a spiritual one. Hence, that is why poor people seeking prosperity were more apt to follow his words than those who already have it in the physcal life. There were no churches at the time, no popes, none of that bullocks, just a sharing of words and thoughts. My opinion towards religion, there is no religion until one power decides to make it so. All religious views babble around the same principals, although not all forms of authority will make the same out of it. When it comes to religion it's to filter all the shit that came after the messages and to connect all the resemblance in all of the different metaphors passed throughout religion and to assemble all of this into one principal idea which creates the essence of it all. Hence, I am not religious but I state with most certitude, God exists.
Jesus used holy anointing oils, which meant he used medical oils to practice his healings and believe it or not he used pot along with olive oil for its medical benefits to practice these cures.
here's a prayer of social vengeance the great writer Louis-Ferdinand Celine wrote: "A God who counts minutes and pennies, a desperate sensual God, who grunts like a pig. A pig with golden wings, who falls and falls, always belly side up, ready for caresses, that's him, our master. Come, kiss me."

you dont know if there is or isnt a god. so government wouldnt exactly be a voice at all if he doesnt exist...right?
