I think it is really wrong for a school to punish somebody just because they have chosen to follow a different religion even if it is a catholic school. Good on you for holding on to your own beliefs.
Born in a typical protestant christian family. Not a christian anymore since around my 14th. I'm more understanding to my family's christianity though than catholic christianity. I'm not anti-religion at all.
better not come over here and be saying that :toetap05: haha nah I wasnt brought up with any religion, I dont think its right for someone to be baptised at birth either. They should at least be at an age where they can decide for themselves. And teaching children that if they dont behave a certain way they will burn in hell for eternity is child abuse in my opinion but if it gives someone sonmething to believe in then go right ahead
The closest I ever got to god was, a Catholic priest pointing a rifle at me. It's my true stories; the funniest. apart from the above I have no other worthwhile mentions about this topic.
Haha, yeah, sure. Anyways, I was born and raised in a Catholic family. I avoided church and all that religious stuff for years, until I decided differently. So yeah, I'm Catholic. I feel like I should say something like : Hi, my name is Piaf and I'm Catholic You know, sort of like a dark, disturbing confession.
#500 for me. :cheers2: I switched from Southern Baptist to Zen. None of my relatives know about it, and I don't plan to tell them. Ever.
baptism doesn't really mean all that much; they decide for themselves whether they want to be confirmed between grades 6 and 8. which i think is still too young, but a lot better than birth anyway.
at that age your still goverened by your parents. If they want you to be confirmed then your going to be confirmed..in most cases anyway.
like i said, i still think it's too young. still completely different from being baptized at birth though.
Oh big deal. So what if someone's been baptized at birth ? Its not like you've been scarred for life.... Most people grow up and throw religion away, which is fine. But they shouldn't be such bitches about it...
unless you happen to be the wicked witch of the west... but i agree with you here. i always understood baptism to basically be getting a kid into god's good graces so they can still go to heaven in case they die before they are old enough to be confirmed. doing it later would pretty much defeat the purpose. but anyway, you should know that it's the cool thing to hate on catholics, so no matter what they do, young "hip" folk are going to make it out to be horrifically evil.
i was raised strict christian and i do not practice the same exact beliefs as my parents, no, but i am not completely against religion. i dont think there's a word for my "religion" i've kind of formed my own beliefs from many different things, including other religions. i would say i consider myself "spiritual" but i dont think i would categorize my beliefs into one specific religion that someone else has thought up for me.
you mean you don't do this already? i say; hi im rambleon, i have absolutely no faith. wanna play together?
Hmmm... I was Christened. My family ( extended and inner )have been various religions, and also various divisions within Christianity. As I said before I dislike the word "religion" and prefer the phrase "values, customs and beliefs". Also, it really troubles me that Atheists are sometimes really nice people, but some so-called religious types can be utterly unpleasant.I mean what the fuck is that...?
Just because someone's religious doesn't mean that they're perfect and always nice. Both atheists and religious folks are humans and that's it.
But there's much more to it. Yes religious people aren't always nice. And being human isn't a blanket defence to bad shit. An Atheist could think "well I'm into oblivion tomorrow I might as well kill, rob/whatever and have fun now".But some have more about themselves than that. I think its really sad ( and dangerous)when a "religious" person can do really bad shit, then "worship" someone and think he's forgiven by him or "only judged by God". Jesus seemed to be really switched on and tried to do the "right thing" in the face of zealots and bad temptations. Its a shame his followers(?), if thats the right word, seem to be of *all* extremes.
I guess you know that this statement only applies to Western religions. Eastern religions follow a completely different mindset and worldview, not subject to that rationalization.
