don't worry, Agnostic is a branch on the tree of Laura (fortunately not laura, that could be humiliating)
Well how's that any different than young dumb people believing in religion because they were told and taught to by their family and school?
Yeah. But I really prefer not to classify myself as anything at all, because I like to think that I am boundless and defy classification
it's not. But, what's wrong with it if they're right anyway? And why the fuck does it matter to atheists?
Boundless is iffy for humanity. Defying classification is only a given because we're high resolution beings and language is a low rez tool.
because...that's the way it always has been...now the dumb are spreading out to less dumb ideas (some atheists actually pay attention to religions more closely than parishioners), but they aren't getting any smarter themselves (I'm not calling religion dumb, just saying that religion benefits from blind followers - atheism has nothing to gain but negative reaction by attracting dumb dumbs)
Sure is. It's frustrating but oh-so-necessary if we want to get along, if we want to get together. I admire people who know a lot of languages. I think the better understanding you have of language, the broader your scope of thought and the deeper your understanding of the fundamentals of science, philosophy, and other human interpretations of reality.
I respect people who understand math as a language and linguistics also, phonology (which is fucking amayzing)
yeah, I love that stuff. I love recognizing commonalities (and differences) in different groups interpretations of reality. And math is incredible as well, though I've learned to appreciate it more through sciences than I have through math classes.
agreed, pretending to be certain is the wrong approach. Now if we want to tie this into that movie, wasnt Bill Maher saying he didnt really know? That seems like the only thing we should be certain about.
Right. Although I believe the logic behind it is extremely out-of-date, I do love the quote from Socrates, "All that is certain is that nothing is certain," or something to that effect. Of course now I think that some things are true, some are false, some are indeterminate. And some are unprovable, period.
i just downloaded the movie from mininova.org an amusing flick. i have thought this way about religion for awhile now. 5/5 docu.
