Allow me to flame, Birmingham is crap It's a dirty little city, and although no one cares about the UK in this thread, I would suggest Cardiff over it! I list the pros and cons for the hell of it Pros - Hosts the Millennium Stadium, Millennium Center and Cardiff Castle. Some of the most aesthetically pleasing buildings in the UK. - Capital city of Wales, being developed quicker than any other part of the UK. Hosts one of the best shopping centers, as most of it is brand new. - Cardiff Bay and the barrage. The city is on the coast and offers much seaside activity which many places in the UK do not. - Exciting nightlife and student population. One of the most sought after cities to student, so it's a young place to be. - And finally, it's not England The Cons - They are some rough areas on the outskirts, the infamous Soul Crew tend to dominate certain parts. - If you're older, the students can fuck you off. - Terrible area for binge drinking Overall though, everybody should visit Wales. It's the unsung hero of Europe, it's really a beautiful place and Cardiff is it's best city.
Will you welsh boys have a get together with scotland and declare fucking independence already. Your like the kids that will never leave home.
canada is somewhere. BRISBANE: pros - decent public transport for a city its size - lots of parks - lots of great small to medium music venues - several pretty cool weekly craft markets - good weather (by most peoples standards) - only an hours drive from several of australia's major theme parks - right on the water (no surf or sand beaches due to islands off coast, but only an hours drive to great surf beaches, plus only an hour or so on a ferry to some really nice islands) - nice cafes cons - located in queensland, which is considered australia's 'hick' state. fairly conservative politically - fairly small art scene - little alternative culture - gets very hot and humid in summer - boring i think americans under 30 can get a six month working visa for australia without a lot of fuss or expense, but i'm not entirely sure. GALWAY pros - population of about 70,000 (i think) which i think is a pretty nice size. small enough to occasionally run into people you know on the main street, big enough to meet strangers regularly at the pub - great music scene (but you have to know the right people which sucks in a way) - lots of great pubs, some touristy, some quiet local, some rowdy, some chilled out. - when the weather's nice EVERYONE goes outside and just lays around in the sun, has a party on their roof or on the beach. great vibe. - nice walk from galway to salthill along the water. some small woods not too far from town that not many people go to. nice place to smoke up. - lots of pretty cool places in short driving distance- loads of great (mostly deserted) beaches if you just drive west into the gaeltacht. coole park, the burren, cliffs of moher and the aran islands are also close by. cons - rarely sunny. very rarely. - most of the pubs get fairly disgusting on fridays and saturdays - only a few hours of sunlight during the winter (and it's usually overcast when the sun's up anyway) - the weather sucks - did i mention that the weather sucks? - sometimes you just can't find shit you need. tried to replace a tap washer, went to the hardware store 'sorry we've never seen one of those'. um... - the weather is shit - landlords in galway are thieving bastards, especially to foreigners - all politicians in ireland are thieving bastards and don't even try to hide it. is the mahon tribunal still going on? americans can get 3 or 4 month working visas to ireland, not sure about the cost. edit: public transport... you never have to worry about the bus being late, because there's always another one tomorrow.
ha its pretty good as long as you like the outdoors and don't mind paying $3.50 per gallon of gas on average (this is low for us), a lot of republicans trying to claim everything, and long dark winters (this is a plus for me, i love snow, except for the lack of sun... that sucks). its expensive to live up here, but they counter-act it by having higher minimum wages and a lot of government jobs add a non-taxed "teecola" to your checks (spelling is an issue with that word...) which is just a bonus for living in an expensive wasteland. haha sorry, i in no way was meaning to insult Canada. I just meant since the op's from Chicago if he wants to visit family, or the states, etc he'd have to drive through Canada. I should've phrased it differently
people wise fuck yeah id take it over cook county! that shits rough! but imagine 120 degree heat, in an army tent!
Sudbury,ON Canada Pros: I can't think of any Cons: Everyone knows everyone's buisness It's in the middle of nowhere north of anywhere There's nothing to do but go to bars *SERIOUSLY*
Spot on for Galway pretty much Never knew you lived there Right since Irelands already in here I might as well add Cork to the list: Cork and county: Pros - Great alternative night life - Great reputation for music (Clonakilty) - Big illegal party crews out West Cork - Very relaxed county in general - Good beaches/good surf - Sunniest part of the country (although thats not saying much) - Some absolutely beautiful countryside (that goes for the rest of Ireland too) - Not much trouble/very friendly locals - Same as what fickle wrote for Galway, run into people you you know randomly but enough new faces to meet new people regularly (city) Cons - The city is full of knackers, will rob or beat without mercy (only in the city) - The city has lost a lot of its charm int he past few years - They city is in going through a heroin pandemic at the moment - In West Cork we have the biggest rural drug squad, proper load of cunts they are but theyre fairly thick so easy not to be caught for anything. - Rain (although the weather has been great here the last few weeks) -The weather in general is unpredictable, can go through 4 seasons in a day regularly. - Although its a very friendly place (Clonakilty: pop-5,000) once you know the regular faces there isnt an abundance of strangers -
hahaha, i agree with everything pypes said. i love birmz! but i dislike the ghettos and the twats.. also cardiff.. i fell asleep at cardiff uni once, my sis was there on an open day. i do love wales tho, could quite happily move there
lol yeah lived there for about a year. can't believe i forgot to mention the travelers! one of the funniest things i've ever heard, a friend was out in dublin and there were two knackers yelling at each other across the road (imagine a dirty dublin 'settled' knacker accent) girl: 'fuck off! go away! you never do anything fer me' guy: 'didn't i tell ya i'd ride ya and buy ya chips?!' thought about moving to cork at one point, nice enough place. never been to west cork. just seen cork city and a few random towns about. fucking hate youghal. not like it's far, you should definitely go! pretty sure it was in louth that some friends came up with the imaginary irish town of ballykilcarlingtonfordopolis metropolis. could be the real name of a town except for the -opolis metropolis bit, but that part rhymes which is fun.
 im originally from dublin, i know exactly the accent your on about hahaha... had a few of them in my class and stuff... and hahahaa cllassyyyy yeah i might go up for a weekend sometime the girls... haha probably is
Youghal isEast Cork man, poncy shit hole full of rich wankers although Tir na Gcasta have done some parties out there and there is a fucking wicked location for parties, the filth have shut down the last few there but its generally untouched. West Cor - fuck loads of parties, most crusties came here when the public relations act was brought in so theres plenty of cool people around. Cork coty is shite though, has been since 2007 North Cork is where all the townie knackers live...load of cunts. The travellar families in my town are dead on though, they still ride horse and carts and are very close friends of my family, theyve saved my ass on more than one occasion Corks a bit rougher than Galway but its still nice, good student population and the usual stuff. Dublin accents are fucking funny though
never heard anyone say that before. galway's rough enough, so. and lol, i think cork accents are funny
What you sayin bai!? you givin me cheek kid? Ill bate ya, ya gom Cork used to be a lot better but its fairly bad at the moment. Shootings an that. The Keenan family are out of jail too...theyre better off in the cemetery tbh. I like most of the Irish accents, Kerry always cracks me up though  the D4 accent has to be one of the worst things about the whole country though
gairl dammit! i'm a gairl! i've a friend from meath and don't love his accent 'no budda, no budda' just about any guy from cork or donegal could just say my name and my clothes would fall off. it was a bit of a hazard actually, when i lived over there.
