hahaha fickle you summed up brisbane pretty well - beautiful weather, boring as all hell! Melbourne, Victoria, Australia: PROS: - nicely spread out so the population of whatever million we're up to never feels too crammed - amazing diversity of ethnicities and culture - huge arts culture, a lot of community support for artists - amazing diversity of music, you can go out pretty much any night of the week and hear pretty much any type of music that you like, live - great food due to ethnic diversity.... for example, sydney rd, in brunswick, the suburb i live in has turkish, lebanese, greek, italian, vietnamese, japanese, english/irish 'pub food', 'australian fusion' type places, nepalese, indian, malaysian and more, all in a 2km or so stretch of road - TRAMS! best way to travel in the city, IMO - drive out of the cbd for an hour and you can be on the beach, in the forest, in a paddock or in the mountains, depending on which direction you've gone - voted 'most liveable city in the world' a few times - the botanical gardens, an awesome oasis in the city, with, as far as i've been told, almost all australian native plants represented somewhere within the gardens - huge cafe culture - a lot of laid back, open minded and socially aware people - thriving graffiti scene means our walls always look awesome CONS: - the spread out-ness of melbourne means that to go from the far west of the city, on the train, to the far east, would take you several hours - seriously unreliable public trainsport system - most specifically the train system - the docklands totally suck.... most commercialised, stupid use of space that had amazing potential that i have ever seen - yuppies taking over the cool arty suburbs en masse.... fitzroy is already turning into wankerville and they're trying to leech into brunswick now.... saw some graffiti on a wall that said 'yuppies out of brunswick please' though, which made me smile - obscene liquor licensing laws - the herald sun - seriously retarded, lowest common denominator misinformation.... basically making sure that all of the middle class here remain extremely scared of being knifed on the city streets - john brumby, our premier is the ultimate 'bandaid solution' politician - pretty much all of the inner city suburbs south of the river are culturally dead cesspools (ie. toorak, south yarra, prahran) - lots of posers, money hungry yuppies and horrible nightclubs - thriving graffiti scene means lots of young kids are taking it too far and stabbing each other for silly reasons like 'you capped my piece, man!' - bit of a methamphetamine problem... occasional chromers on trams/the streets - some of the outer suburbs are pretty culturally dead suburbs i'd visit/live in; collingwood, fitzroy, brunswick, north melbourne, richmond, the CBD, ferny creek, blackburn, sassafras, olinda suburbs i'd stay away from; prahran, south yarra, toorak - for being wanky and overcommercialised. all of the 'insta-suburbs' out far west now that have been built for being scary and stepford. dandenong, noble park and doveton for being pretty unsafe. overall, i <3 melbourne and don't think i'll ever live, for an extended period, anywhere else
Sacramento is the closest city to where I live..... pros -Sac is prob the cleanest city...theres a alot of trees and effort into maintaing the streets, neighborhoods, parks etc. -Midtown is starting to grow and it's fun watching it turn into an actual city with music, fun stores, and diverse groups of people -small population...it's not as crowded and full of traffic as other cities -The Fucking GOVERNATOR [Arnold Schwarzenager] is in charge yo. lol -Basically Sac town has a small town feel with a city vibe...does that make sense? Cons -Its sacramento... lol Okay I dont think Ive been much help here. Good luck OP
Austin Minnesota: PROS: My friends are here you get all 4 seasons Some good food Lots of weed to go around (illegally of course) Nice parks CONS: HORMEL (yuck- this is Spamtown USA) This get two lines.... SPAM... yuck I guess it gets three... Hormel pollution (factory is right in the middle of town) NAZI COPS New prison/jail Racist fucks (esp. police) Nazi Rallies (crazy huh?) Nothing to fucking do...
mandy, if you could live anywhere in cali, where would you live? why? i graduate in 8 mos and am seriously considering moving there.
Ill keep that in mind  Yeah but it doesnt matter either way, most of the knacker girls look like guys anyway so they get called bai all the same! And LeroyPantweather: Theres always au pairs coming and going all throughout the year so what I said about Clonakilty isnt really true, youre most likely going to meet someone new each week even in my little town If youre considering Ireland though then Id definitey say move to one of the towns instead of the city its never that far to travel to the city either. The towns in general just seem to be a lot more friendly. Clon is anyway...just dont go to Bandon
alright, well if you're interested in Montana... Billings, MT pro: biggest city in Montana/Wyoming kind of close to Yellowstone kind of close to Red Lodge for snow sports kind of close to awesome hiking all seasons a mall... I guess that's good... con: biggest city in Montana/Wyoming very little cultural diversity (i don't think we had any black kids in my graduating high school class, and only a couple asian/mexican/other. but we do have quite a few native americans.) not much different music, but some times we get bigger stars coming to play.. nothing too special usually no decent public trans, except maybe busses? plenty of snow in the winter Bozeman would be a bit more diverse.. they actually have dready people walking around there. I've heard Missoula is pretty cool with a better music scene, but have never been. Butte is kind of a shitty hole. when I'm home, I live in the mountains, which is teh best place to live if you are going to live in MT
Hmmmm.....it all depends on what you like and how much dinero you have. I would personally love to live in Berkley because it's just an amazingly fun city. There is a lot of work opportunity especially in your areas of expertise...politics/non profit etc... it is also close to the beach, mountains, and wine country. It is also incredibley diverse...there is music on every corner as well as art gallery's, exotic food choices, and it's the epicentre of activism opportunity. Berkley is also very community based so it thrives on street vendors, farmers markets, and street faires. Basically Berkely is a smaller scale of San Francisco and SF is just across the bay. However, it's expensive to live there and it is infested with dirty hippies and homeless people. lol. I guess it prob wouldnt be as expensive for you though because your single [meaning not married and without children] and can have roomies. If you prefer the mountains...I would reccomend nevada city, Tahoe,or even humboldt/ Mendocino area. However each of those mountain towns have a way different vibe. nevada city is a small town with a lot of miner history...it has it's own unique scene though...with local music and art. Theres a lot of dreadies and a homegrown reggae/Rasta influence. However, Nevada city is small and the job market reflects that...you really have to have a specialty to make a decent living there. Tahoe is just drop dead gorgeous year round and if your into outdoorsy things thats the place to be. The Humboldt/Mendo area is gorgeous too....redwood coastline...theres nothing like it. Humboldt also has a huge dready population with it's own music scene that reflects the kinds of people there. However, I think areas of Humboldt are starting to become overbeared with street kids and the likes...and the economy is devastated. Most people make a living off of growing. Its hard to make an honest living there. Uhm...and then theres the southern costal areas like Santa Cruz which are fun, warm, beautiful, diverse, but EXPENSIVE! Basically...i think all of California rocks....but overall, as somebody who has lived all over, I prefer northern Cali over southern Cali. The people are more laid back and I prefer mountainy lush green terrain over desert. Does that help? =]
Naw, it's just me... repping my city... in front of a picture (or two) of my city... WHAT! Erm... SC is not what I would call "southern" and compared to SF it is also not "EXPENSIVE." It is a smaller community with fewer jobs though so it may seem like it...
I always think SC is southern cuz its about a 4 hour drive from where I am...but come to think of it Ive never been the one driving so I dont really pay attention to the direction. lol. A few years ago I was thinking of moving to that area and was searching on craigslist and stuff for rentals....it was mad crazy expensive! But I think that the cost of living is just higher all around on the coast then it is inland. Where I live you could easily score a 2 bedroom house for 850+ in SC it was like 1200+ for apartments. I bet it's ridonkulus in SF!
I would consider SC (and SF) to be in the middle region of the state. Central California... if you will (although yes, they are to the south of you) Recockulous actually
Just for good measure heres a picture of Cork city I took a few months back That was taken from a fairly rough part of the city though...all my friends live up that direction though. And this is a picture of Clon Edit: Shit sorry for pic size but it is rep your city
Adelaide Pros -I can get served alcohol and tobacco, everrrryywheeerre underage -Theres a dealer on every corner of Hindley street, each night of the week -Good underground music scene -Good pubs -Attractive females Cons -Public transport blows -Aboriginals
Minneapolis Pros Tons of culture; great music scene, it's becoming quite the foodie city, art, museums, etc. Weather is good if you don't like it too hot. Great public transportation. Lots of bike trails/lanes. It was recently named the best city in the country for accessibility for bicyclists. Beautiful skyline. Lots of lakes. Educated people. Politics. People care and get involved. Clean. No clothing tax, lots of shopping. Great local beer. Cons Big metro area, it's really spread out. Traffic is shit. Especially in the winter during any kind of snow. Minnesota nice. Ugh. Weather. If you don't like cold, leave now. Mall of America tourists.
Ireland? Dual citizenship through ancestory? any of you locals know heard any thing about that???????google was unclear edit: great grand parents from ireland
Visas should be cheap either way, and the shades wouldnt notice if it runs out anyway The great grand parents probably covers it anyway.
Nah not a chance. Well theres the usual supermarket jobs an that. Dont expect to be putting a degree to good use though
grandparents maybe, great grandparents i don't think so. most EU countries consider grandparents, some only parents. americans can get 4 month working holiday visas, but you may have to go through an agency. not sure about 'proper' working visas, but you'd definitely need a degree and probably a bunch of other stuff. a friend of mine has a PhD and can almost get a visa for the UK. EU's pretty tricky these days.
