The problem is, the Supreme Court has never ruled on exactly what the Constitution means by "natural born" American citizen. Common sense would tell most of us that it means born to a mother who is an American citizen, because it seems pointless to penalize someone just because their mother was traveling overseas during pregnancy, especially if that travel was mandated by the US military, which was the case for John McCain.

All that original birther movement bullshit was always pointless in my opinion, because nobody ever disputed the citizenship of Obama's mother. He could have been born in Kenya (which he was not), and would have still been an American citizen.

Of course, common sense is a foreign language to a lot of people these days. Frankly, I'm surprised that some nutcase hasn't yet asserted that the "natural born" clause excludes babies delivered by C-section.

 

Can't find a source right now and don't have the time to look, but there was a question about his mother not actually having American citizenship at the time he was born... She either claimed Canadian and gave up US, or something like that.

I don't that trump attacking Bill Clinton is in trumps best interest. Besides the fact that Bill has a 60% approval rating, his liaisons with Monica, or any woman have nothing to do with this election. Ironic in that trump and the clintons used to be buddies.

Only, his mother was not an American when he was born. She was a Green Card holder who left the USA and went to Calgary in Canada to have her child. So, Rafael Cruz does not meet the requirement for the job. And regardless, he is so far to the right side that he thinks immoral people should die on the sidewalks without medical services or any other kind of government help.

Well, a green card does not grant citizenship, only resident status and is the first step towards naturalization. So it's possible she was still a US citizen.

Ben Carson may be the next one out. His campaign is in freefall, with poll numbers now in low single digits and paid staff leaving in droves.

 

I think it boils down to a three, possibly four man race. Trump, crud, Rubio, and wait for it. . . . . Bush.
Bush is like a lion at a kill. He let's the others fight for the scraps, and he goes for the main course.

 

I think Bush might actually get the nomination - I never thought I would say this about a Bush, but he really does come across as the most reasonable of the bunch. I predict the rest will slowly lose their votes as they keep trying to outcrazy each other.
