Ha ha, they give Trump a microphone and he proceeds to destroy himself...and the entire GOP if they don't denounce him soon.

    Beautiful!

I met a guy at work today who said "You know....I think I like Trump. Isn't it about time we put a businessman in charge? I'm tired of politicians and people buying elections for them!"

I resisted the urge to say "Yeah...because it's totally better to buy an election with your own money instead" and also "I hate to break it to you but business people have been in charge for a long time and what we have now is because of them."

Democrats are soooo happy Trump is high in the polls. It completely destroys the GOP's stated aim of attracting Latinos.

And he isn't even great at it either. How many times has one of his companies filed bankruptcy? I don't care enough to actually research it but I'm sure it's been multiple times. How can you possibly drive a casino into the ground? People throw money at you and yet....you can't figure out a way to turn a profit?

Is Trump going to be the unruly circus elephant who steps on the clowns and squishes all of them but Jeb Bush? Trump seems to be the consensus choice of all the nutty voters who aren't looking for a serious, credible candidate, while Bush is the choice of nearly all the right wingers who know a thing or two about politics.

In the future, among VP and/or cabinet choices, look for Nikki Haley's name to show up among the fastest rising stars. At least she has better sense than Sarah Palin.

Donald Trump hasn’t lost any points in the polls since he made the statement that John McCain is “a war hero because he got captured. I like people that didn’t get captured.” How is this not costing him a lot of votes from veterans and military families? In fact, Trump has taken a commanding lead.

Nobody should throw stones at McCain’s military service, regardless of his political views or career. Those are two completely separate things. Somebody actually wants the head of the US military to be a person who views POW’s as failures and losers?

Can you believe Scott Walker entered the race at the number two position last week? In some polls, Jeb Bush has fallen all the way to fourth.

Fox News has made a decision that GOP presidential debates will be limited to the top ten candidates in terms of national popularity, essentially nailing the coffin shut for candidates ranked eleven or higher at the time of the first debate. This greatly diminishes the importance of the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus. Some think this is more democratic and fair than giving two states so much power to influence the race, while others think it’s inappropriate for Fox to make this decision on their own.

While suffering as a POW is terrible, Trump actually had a point.
Not that I'm defending him or how he worded his response, but when you look at McCain's military record while not a prisoner, he doesn't come across as a hero.
In fact, he comes across as a bumbling fool who never should have been making the flight he was shot down in, in the first place.

I hate to say it, but I kinda agree with the basic premise... why do we call a sucky serviceman a hero just because he was captured?
Nothing else about his service stands out as heroic, if anything he stands out as an incapable grandstander.

Not that POWs don't deserve respect, and plenty are heroes in their own right, but I don't see how being captured is heroic.

Was he his own boss? Did he pick out his own assignments?

Do you know what he went through during that aircraft carrier accident before he was captured? He literally had to run through fire, on a broken ankle, to survive.

Because anybody in a war can be captured, and they always have it worse than anybody, because we're always fighting against countries that have no respect for human life or decent moral standards of any kind.

Also, McCain was offered early release by the enemy because of who his father was, which is against our military code of conduct, and he refused special treatment. Most of his torture came after that. Both of his arms were broken, and not put in casts. He can't even comb his own hair today, because he can't reach that high.

During that time, I'm sure Donald Trump was spending his time cruising around in luxury sports cars, paid for by his dad. Fuck him.

Trump's attitude toward military people disqualifies him for leading them.

eeck!!! We dehumanize in order to make killing a virtue. Actually what would make trump qualified to lead the armed forces is if he got elected.

Do you deny that North Vietnam violated international standards for prisoner treatment? Our POW camps were regularly inspected by the UN. Some American troops violated international law in their treatment of civilians, but they were also violating orders from their superior officers, and some were sent to prison for it.

I suggest that you read up on the traditional Chinese death of a thousand cuts. Past atrocities in the Far East make today's CIA look like a bunch of pussies and lightweights.

Western civilizations established the Geneva Convention, which other countries routinely ignore. It does matter, if you happen to be a POW.

Those of us who hate war should want our leaders to hate war too, so they won't make use of it unnecessarily.

Didn't mean to suggest it didn't matter. I said we dehumanize to make killing a virtue. We do the same with our politics.

On a lighter note, Lindsey Graham, who has never sent an email, has apparently taken to Twitter asking if he should get an iPhone or Android. Risky strategy as he may wind up alienating a sizable portion of the electorate.

With the large field we gonna see even stranger shit happening.
