There may be some truth to that. And sometimes touring bands aren't that talented either. Sometimes the local guys who can play for hours have to cover their asses and most people might not realize that.

We opened for a band with a great 45 minutes act. We played for 2 hours. Before our set, we were all backstage and I asked them why we were playing for 2 hrs and they only had 45 minutes...thinking it would be fine if they wanted more time. They said they only had 45 minutes worth of music. I was like...what? You can't jam some stuff out or do a few covers on the fly? Nope. They had 45 minutes worth of music and that was it. Not criticizing them but for a band on a national tour.....

You bought an old record from a charity shop and you're going to take the record back for a refund? Am I reading that right?

a lot of good or popular bands play original music and do a few covers.

dave matthews covers all along the watchtower
    shit...
i can't think of the others ones that i was talking about a few days ago...

but i went to see my favorite band, built to spill. they write their own music.

but they also play a few covers on their tour. they played Don't fear the reaper when i saw them. they also cover a song by The Smiths, Metallica's Orion (i think is what the song is called), and a few others.

Orion is pretty badass. I love that song! I learned it years ago and love just messing around with it but have never played it on stage. I was once at a friends band practice and the bass player and drummer knew it so we tried it. It was pretty fun. Never played it with anyone else besides that one day.

Ha! seems ass-backwards, opening bands should be 45min-1hour and the headline act should play at least 2 hours.

When I was playing the Denver bar circuit we played four 45 minute sets per night. Now you go to a club and see 3 or 4 bands in one night!

For years, we were used to playing all night by ourselves. Maybe 3 sets from 9-1:30 or so. Then we started having openers and it was nice to share the load. Then we played a few opening sets which we hadn't done since the early days. At first, I was like wtf? But then I thought...shit...only 45 minutes or an hour? I have to admit...I kind of enjoyed it once in a while. I could kick back and watch someone else play all night. :) But I don't like 3 or 4 bands in one night very often unless we share the back line and even then...IDK...I'd rather go with 2...maybe 3 tops. Some of these kids are playing with 5 or 6 acts a night on a regular basis. What a pain in the ass.

the biggest rip off is the music industry itself.

So you hate every single band that ever existed and will hate every band that will ever be formed?
