There are over 100 strains of HPV 103 or 106? I believe. Roughly 6 are known to be a factor in developing cervical cancer. Many people's immune systems are able to get rid of some strains, but because it is so common it can recur . I am excited for this vaccine. But it is new and no vaccine is without risks. I would be wary of giving it to my child before it has been around for a longer time. There have been no follow up studies long term. It seems promising but so many other vaccines and drugs come and go.
Right now they have a prevention for HPV, but no cure. I want to take the cure when they come out with it, but it's not worth the risk if there's no long term study about the affects. Like others said, HPV isn't that big of a deal as long as you watch out for cervical cancer. Yes, I feel shitty about myself for having it, but it wasn't my fault. I have never had a break out. I'm working on my immune system to correct it.
I know a woman who is 55 and just diagnosed ! She has no idea how she got it. I think it is so common that casual contact would seem to be as suspect as sexual contact.
