I dunno - maybe it could be something to do with the fact that we're starting to feel the effects of the most reactionary government policies since Thatcher, we're constantly being told we're all in it together and must make cutbacks... ...and its just possible that some people might see this as evidence that we very definitely are not all in it together. .
Thats because the police arrested all the "anarchists" yesterday in a series of pre-emptive raids. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=414133&f=606&page=4 - post number 39. Freedom of speech, anyone ? .
I agree 100%, but unfortunately legally we aren't citizens of a state, we are subjects of a monarchy. We are owned. Well, some of us. Rather too many of us. .
Its definitely a royal wedding that Princess Diana would have been proud of. There are so many people attending it and even waiting entire day just get a glimps of Prince William and his newly wedded wife Kate.
One positive thing I have to say about the wedding - it has produced a whole load of well thought out anti-wedding songs and rants. Hell, it almost feels like 1977 again... only better, because we have Youtube You wont have heard them on the radio or seen them in the media [or even on here] but the republican spirit is alive and well where it matters... in the heart. I've been collecting a few of them up, and I'm having an anti-wedding party...and unlike the one earlier today you're all invited. And - KATE MIDDLETON PORN ! Though you might find that a little disapointing.. Come on over, bring a bottle... http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=414133&page=4 Starts at the bottom of the pages, continues on the next... .
I didn't refer to haters hating them. I also said in my post that I couldn't care less about the royals. Doesn't stop it from being a perfect love story that the nation had the joy in celebrating with them. How can you hate on a wedding like that? That was my point! Whether or not the monarchy have any right to be there is completely irrelevant to what I was saying. You also have to remember that we are far from being the only nation in the world with a royal family. Our country was run by a king or queen a few years ago. We're run by a parliament now but it wasn't the case. A monarchy is just a tradition we never broke away from. We won't ever be able to. It doesn't actually matter whether or not they deserve to be there. Not that I think they should!
Everyones gone bloody bonkers over this wedding soma hypnosis bollocks. Mr Frankenstein I salute you :2thumbsup:
France did, Germany did. Closer to home the Irish Republic did - hell, even those overseas colonies now known as America did. Why cant we ? Do we really want to be subjects of a monarchy, rather than citizens of a modern state ? Wouldn't it be nice if we actually had a written constitution ? Wouldn't the tax-payers share of what today cost been better spent on all the things that we apparently cant[/afford] ? How about the idea that we could vote for a head of state rather than have one foisted on us because of accident of birth rather than any ability ? In our heads, we're still a medieval country... .
I got up at 4pm. Made myself a cup of tea. Had something to eat. Went and recorded a song. Bam! They should have a Royal wedding every week, it makes me more productive.
this has little to do with the wedding though. no matter what the circumstance is, i see no need in hating two people expressing their love for one and another.
You might wonder whether the general situation might not have everything with the timing of the wedding - bread and circuses, you know ? But as I've said before - who's hating two people, etc ? Hate is a valuable commodity and, frankly, I dont think these two rather unexceptional people are worth it. To some degree they're just puppets of a system, and they jump depending on how their strings are pulled. I dont like the system that is pulling those strings. But I think you may have been reading too many Barbara Cartland novels [or whatever the modern equivalent is...] if you think this is purely about love. Its all mixed up with politics. Kate's role in all this is quite simple - she has to deliver, as the saying goes, an heir and a spare, to keep the system rolling along. I would imagine its most likely that prior to any announcements being made she would have had to have undergone detailed and very intimate tests to ensure she was up to the job. Had she failed those tests, I expect it would have been "Goodbye Kate, nice girl but not up to the job. Next !". Ultimately its all about keeping The Family in business. What, as TinaTurner once remarked, has love got to do with it ? I seem to recall people saying all the same things you're saying back at the time of the Chas & Di show - and look how that turned out. Meanwhile...back in the real world, a number of people were arrested prior to the wedding, pre-emptive arrests because they might have been suspected of causing a disturbance at the event. Guilty untill proven innocent ? How do you feel about that ? . .

We did pretty well, I'd count it as a partial success, apart from seeing some rehashed footage on mute in a pub in the evening and having to bear everyone we met or communicated with talking about it endlessly all day ...
We're not subjects of a monarchy. It's constitutional. Maybe, maybe not. What's your point? Why would Britain having a written constitution affect a constitutional monarchy? Taxpayers didn't pay for the wedding. Taxpayers paid for the security bill (keep in mind that the Met were paid double time since it was a Bank Holiday- Who declared it a Bank Holiday?! Not the queen...), but we'll reap the benefits for years to come. The wedding has already done wonders for the travel and tourism industry in London this weekend and it will carry on for the next few years. It'll help our economy decently. We vote for a PM and can't even fucking get that right!
