Saddest song I ever heard? Have to be Mad World by Gary Jules. It was a remake of a Tears For Fears song for the game Gears of War. Haunting piano and eerie vocals.
"Last Kiss" that song Pearl Jam covered is pretty sad I suppose. The Red Hot Chilipeppers song "Tearjerker" is too. Most people probably aren't too into country or feeling very festive in July, but I remember a Christmas country song called like "Christmas Shoes" or something that is pretty sad as well.
Like all of the saddest songs ive heard have already been mentioned. NIN-Hurt(its the original, and i hear more emotion in it). Mad word-Gary Jules Tearjerker-KoRn Daddy-KoRn Something in the Way-Nirvana Coma White -Marilyn Manson
"A Hundred Miles or More" by Alison Krauss ... the story of a parent who's dying and trying to explain to her young child why she's going away. Absolutely heart-breaking. "You Left Me Just When I Needed You Most" ... Dolly Parton and others. My god, this is the saddest thing I've ever heard. I can't listen without tears streaming down my face.
'Starry Starry Night' by Don Mclean 'Little Wing' by Jimi Hendrix. Both songs are completely intertwined with a relationship I had. They're such wonderful songs, it's a pity I can't listen to them now days without descending into melancholy thoughts.
The song "Memory" from Cats. I used to sing it all the time and it brings chills up my spine everytime I listen to it.
I think I'm going to have agree with anything Johnny Cash and Elliott Smith, as well as Mad World. And what's that Christmas time song about the child in poverty who wants to get a Christmas present for his dying mom? That one is one of those songs that is just so sad it's unfair. Also She's Leaving Home and Let It Be (I cried to that scene in Across the Universe) by The Beatles. There are so many sad songs. :'(
One that always get the tears going for me is a Hank Williams' song called 'The First Fall of Snow'. It's about this dad who tells of his daughter dying at 'the first fall of snow' and how he's planning to 'join' her in heaven. Sooo, sad.
This song has a lot of personal meaning to it....in regards to being just sick of life because of humans and some physical problems.... No Lies, Just love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuQLbXURL4Y The lines, "Of course it's your decision, but just so you know, if you decide to leave, soon I will follow," always reminds me of my cousin and what he said to me. "we all get tired I mean eventually and there's nothing left to do but sleep" Another one of my favorite lines.....so true...so true. In fact I love the simple yet "felt" chord progression so much that I am going to make a tribute song...and I very rarely do that...usually it's just a play whatever I feel type of deal.
"wharf rat" by the dead is pretty damn sad. "whiter shade of pale" also brings a tear to my eye. for me, though, i think prolly the most emotional one is pearl jam's cover of "last kiss"
Lovesong for a Dead Child (Flowing Tears) is pretty damn sad. actually, pretty much all of Jade by Flowing tears sounds like one long, heartbroken suicidal mothers wanderings. its good stuff. I enjoy it more than what Flowing Tears sounds like now... so, here is lovesong... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecrdsTUd2SE (I'm sorry for the bad audio and that kids home movie!) and here is the title track, Jade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xmz7ixJxgA (good audio!no movie!)
The saddest songs I've ever heard are the ones that have personal meaning to me. They can reach my heart and strangle it like none of these great, woeful songs mentioned ever could. Usually songs that pertain to my relationships and my most important relationship, but some about going home were recently poignant for me and the isolation I have felt in my life. My contributions: Little Willow by Paul McCartney was written for the children of a family friend who had died. I always thought it was beautiful but hearing it after my father died gave it new meaning. I've always looked up to McCartney and this song is intended to be a comfort but it has the potential to send me over the edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvRoV_Mj0pA By a similar token, I can't listen to If You Leave Me Now by Chicago all the way through so I hope this link works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83d6wVtw0So I used to sing it to my cat. My best friend, one of the soulmates in life I was lucky to find and the guy I grew into adulthood with. I'd sing it jokingly whenever he'd walk away from me and it became something he'd recognize. I didn't anticipate the signifigance it would take on after he slipped away.
