In eastern Europe the term 'Old Nick' is a very old name for Satan. The original elves were feared by children. For 12 nights, kids would go to bed and worry whether or not that night's particular elf would judge them good or bad. If they were good, the elf would leave a gift in their shoe, but if not the shoe would be empty in the morning. Each elf had a particular area of behaviour that he was the judge of, and also a particular gift, like, for example, one of them might judge if you were generous enough and then leave you an apple if you were....mind you that is just a made up example, I have no idea who did what.
I am not to sure about 'siberian mushroom eaters'..i have heard about santa being dressed in red and white because of colours of a particular mushroom..a 'magic mushroom' (those darn pagans again). The same thing with 'christ' just a metaphor and such.. Plus the old pagan 'wich doctors' 'shamen' or whatever you wish to call them (depending on the culture your talking about), would take such 'mushrooms' and get into 'contact' with the spirit world.. Us poor simpletons being unaware and un-versed in such mystical ramblings they would utter while under the influence, would assume they were great powerful people (these 'shamen') When infact they were just heavy drug users with a understanding of basic science. http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/3136.html http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/P/pagans/html/programmes/mm.html
i haven't read a lot of these posts, especially the longer ones, so appologies for my laziness... there are red mushrooms with white spots, they grow in parts of europe and into parts of india and such. my oma had tons of these mushrooms, everywhere, she was convinced they were lucky. she said that depending on where they grow, the mushrooms are either highly poisonous and kill you, or they give you hallucinations. there are theories that say those mushrooms are soma, or at least a key ingredient in it. just thought i'd toss that out there for the 'shroom talk. my dad's an athiest, but my mom is not. we celebrated xmas, but they never told me santa existed or anything. my family basically believes that telling your kid santa exists is morally corrupt, because you are beginning your relationship with a lie. someone earlier said something about st. nick's day, where you leave your shoes out at night and in the morning there are goodies in them. we did that when i was little, but mainly for fun and tradition, it was definitely clear that there are no saints or elves. kinda like halloween, you can celebrate and have fun with it, but you shouldn't tell your kids zombies exist.
Click on the first link in my last post it is fairly intresting .. What do you mean.. 'zombies don't exist' i might not believe in jesus God or any 'higher being' ... but zombies, don't tell me those don't exist PLEASE.
Haven't you guys ever watched the movie "The Serpent and the Rainbow" Zombies DO exist man, take some zombinol. hehehe
Of course not.. I know none of us are fundementaly 'alive' because the atoms/protons (whatever) that make us erm us, are not 'alive' ... but zombies Nooo.
If you take away all my pointless posts .. you end up with roughly 50 left. Now thats trying to be funny and a completly pointless post (from myself).
