    For smoking! :ssmokeit:

BTW if Jenn backs off on the texting I can substitute so you won't feel left off. :p

RF: a creative Bass in the kitchen always ends up making something wonderful! My last creation is a carrot-red lentil-ginger-orange soup, thick and smooth to perfection. With a sandwich made with the veggie pâté that's cooking right now and the raspberry upside-down cake I'm about to bake, it's gonna make a simple and earthy dinner meal for tonight.

I like the show ''the first 48''.

I hope everyone are having nice holidays.

RF: I've had this old electric guitar in the back of my closet forever. It was sort of a hand me down that my uncle gave to my dad and that my dad gave to me when i was 6. It was my first guitar and I never used it much because I didn't have an amp, and then I moved on to other guitars without giving it too much thought. It has no strings on it and a lot of parts are missing because I took them off to fix other guitars.

I decided to have a closer look today, it turns out it is a El Degas from the mid 70's made in Japan, with an all maple neck. Apparently it's a somewhat sought after and well built guitar. The electronics in it are just average, but with a few modifications, it can be a very nice guitar.

Needless to say I'm pretty excited and looking forward to fixing her up! It's a knockoff of a fender stratocaster, and I've been meaning to get a fender guitar for certain applications (all I have is Gibson), and it looks like I already have one!

sorry for the long winded RF but yeah, I'm stoked!

We got at least six inches of snow so far today. I just came in from cleaning off the car. It will get covered again but for this old body clearing off six inches twice is easier than trying to tackle 12 inches once. Grace (dog) was confused. She thought we were going to go for a ride to the park. She did get to run around in the snow before we came back inside. That made her very happy.

RF... Right after I hit Post for that last message, Spooky the ninja cat had a seizure. Seems okay now other than moving very slowly.

It's a tough job, Bassline, but I appreciate your willingness to take this on. :D

C'est magnifique! Do you just make these recipes up as you go along, or are these from a book or sumthun?

    Buried treasure!

I've owned the same two guitars since my teen years - a nylon-string classical one that I bought at age 13 to replace my "starter" model, and a steel-string Yamaha that I bought from my friend in college. I've never owned an electric.

    What's a floating bridge?

I watched the first four parts. Scary shit.

RF: My stepson got my 13-year-old daughter a cheap ukulele for Xmas. I was going to re-string it for her, cuz she's a lefty, but I've never played a uke before and wanted to see how it played before re-stringing.

The damn thing perplexed the hell out of me. I finally realized that the strings are so far from the fretboard that the mere act of holding a string down behind a fret stretches it so much that it sounds a half-interval higher than it's supposed to. It appears to be essentially untunable and unplayable.

I suggested that if she really wants to learn uke, we should go to the music store sometime and check out some that are actually playable.

Jeezus dear God a'mighty. I need to get a car jack to raise my chin off the floor.

I'm guessing that's a tenor uke he's playing. Damn fine action and sound quality.

The one my stepson bought is a soprano uke. Or at least, it's designed to LOOK like a soprano uke. It has all the right parts in more or less the right configuration. I want to find out what store he bought it from and tell them they need to stop selling those. They're being passed off as real instruments, but they're not.

The following is zengizmo's handy, opinionated overview of the Protestant Bible:

    Old Testament - Hebrew scriptures

Genesis to Deuteronomy (Pentateuch - 5 books): Creations stories and ancient legends, Hebrew patriarchs, Moses and the Exodus from Egypt, lists of laws and a census.

Joshua to Esther (Historical - 12 books): Early Israel, the line of Israel's Kings starting with Saul, David, and Solomon.

Job to Song of Solomon (Wisdom - 5 books): Poetry/songs, adages, wisdom, and soft porn. :D

Isaiah to Daniel (Major prophets - 5 books): Prophecies and history.

Hosea to Malachi (Minor prophets - 12 books): More prophecies and history.

New Testament - birth and life of Jesus, early church history, and letters of the apostles

Matthew to Luke (the Gospels - 4 books): Birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus

Acts of the Apostles (1 book): Early church history.

Romans to Philemon (letters written by Paul or someone pretending to be Paul - 13 books): Rules, theology, and exhortations.

Hebrews to Jude (letters written by other apostles or people pretending to be apostles - 8 books): More rules, theology, and exhortations.

The Revelation of John (1 book): Insane ravings, or codified satire, or prophecies, depending on your view.
