This is one of the wisest responses I have seen on this site :)

I was an elementary school teacher for 35 years. Believe me, I know as well as you do how awful most school systems are. In fact, it's probably even worse than you realize, and if you're lucky, you have teachers that shield you from the worst of the ridiculous regulations and policies. It's quite possible that your teachers feel even more stifled that you do.

    However.

When you get out into the "real" world, you will find that most work situations are not much different. You just might discover that, compared to your office or your workplace, your school experience was incredibly free and creative. And by the way, this is a reverse relationship ... what I mean is, the less education you have, the more boring your job is likely to be.

I'll also say that it's mostly a myth that school stifles creativity. I realized early in my teaching career that the students who felt the most bored and stifled weren't the creative ones at all, they were the ones who came in with a chip on their shoulder from the beginning.

As the poster above says, you can do things yourself to make your school experience better. You can be a participant in it. Don't just be a passive slug.

I wish you the best :)

Ideally, this sounds like a great positive idea. But my school doesn't allow just anyone to create a new club. They have to approve of it. And only the people who are "in" with the teachers get anything approved. And putting up unapproved artwork around the school is a punishable offense. However, I get the point you're making.
I am bored with school, but I do make the most of it. When I'm sitting idly in my unchallenging classes, I bring a notepad to write in (most of my best work was written in class). I wear what makes me comfortable and I socialize with those whose company I enjoy.

A suggestion to anyone is, make any assignment that you can personalize in the least, your own. Make it interesting. Make it pertain to something you're passionate about. Mold their "moldings" into something that actually will benefit you in a way that you like. Take what you disagree with with a grain of salt and QUESTION! The only way they brainwash you is if you allow them to.

i always felt school was just making me stand still, mainly becuase i dont plan to go to uni or anything like that. i found it monotonous and frustrating, and still have no idea how or why teachers put up with the abuse of other students, always said to myself, at least i can see the end of it.
i found the one thing that really got to me was how they took away my freedom of speech. i had posted on the net in referance to my english teachers actions as "f*ing genious", without using names or school or any point of identerfication. though i did have a point, we had a year average of 38%. i was suspended for 3 days for it. even though i was using freedom of speech in my own time they had to punish me for missuse of school computers and internet. im still not sure how THEY got away with that. true i was out of line, but also true that they were.

also i find it now discusting that they have giving all the students in my school a lap top, no more writting, all typing. what is happening in the world? what happens when they get into the work force, or need to write for anything? it jsut seems half the time we are going backwards. glad i finished this year, dont have to watch it getting worse.

    my school is a JOKE
its always gonna be way too overcrowded and the teachers there teach from a book that has the plan already layed out. The teachers barley understand it themselves and expect us to know everything the day they teach it

When I went to school, the guys had to have their hair cut two fingers above the eyebrows and above the ears and collar. They had to wear dress slacks, shirts, and polished shoes, no jeans or T's allowed.
The girls had to wear dresses, and were made to get on their knees (shame on you for thinking what you were just thinking!) while the teacher would measure to make sure the hem was no more than 4 inches off the floor. You could not chew gum or eat/drink anything outside of the cafeteria. If you spoke without being called upon, like to the guy in front of you, you were sent to the principal's office. If you were tardy for class, it meant that you would stay an hour after school, in the study hall. If you missed a day due to illness, you got a makeup slip and had a week to get it caught up - if you didn't, you stayed after in study hall, an hour a day, until the work was caught up. The gym teacher could and would make you grab your ankles while he swatted your ass with a whiffle ball bat, if you caused trouble. And most importantly, they would leave you behind if you did not complete the courses as required.

To these thoughts I would add:

To OP and another poster: What I think some folk are trying say here is to hang in there is school and work on creating your own reality - which is def not limited to starting a club!

To all who suffer (and I suffered mightily in school): If you think your teachers are dumb, just wait until you get to know your boss in a dead-end job.

College is much better than high school. You get more choices (after the 1st year) on what to take, but you still have to take required things that are or seem to be irrelevant. That's just the way it goes. Graduate school gives you more feedom.

Tough shit about the injustice part. First, it's not really unjust to require young people to learn things that they think they don't need (like math, history, English). Second, there's nothing you can do about it except make it interesting where you can, drop out (that'll show 'em, the dirty bastards), or get through it and succeed and then be able to DO something about injustice other than bemoan it - surely other things to do about it, but those are some choices.

School is what you make of it.
It's another hoop to jump through.

Just to clarify, I hated every second :)

Yeah, and good one animals (#28)!

I especially hated the classes taught by coaches - stupid assholes. Actually it mostly was all a bummer for me because my family life wasn't too great. But I finally made it.

I used to like school.. not love it. Yes it is crazy how everything is in uniform.. we have to act a certain way.. dress a certain way in some states. Honestly.. when I graduated I really didn't remember that much from all the years. I've kept in all the stuff I actually liked.. and forgot the rest. I believe college is starting to become a joke because of enrollment. I might be saying this because I had a horrible time, but I wanted to become a nurse. I was turned down by financial aid because I supposedly made too much money. Therefore, I couldn't go.. and I might not ever go to become a nurse like I wanted. But, school is what you make it, I always chilled with my friends, did my work but besides that.. nothing else. I'm not very good with following.

I think that school should stop after elementary school. The math and other subjects you learn in elementary school are actually used in real life. After that, Jr. High and HS are total and utter bull shit IMO. Basically brainwashing day care for teenagers.

i understand the validity of school towards expanding your mind and knowing more about the world, but i feel like knowledge is a choice. I don't like the seperation of school. i think we should have classes where we just get to know people and explore learning about people outside of our social "cliques"
