If they close school on or after Friday, and that is when students get a break, the ten days or so for March or spring break, it won’t impact people as much for finding child care or taking time off work then anyways. Parents are prepared for it. Teachers are taking time off then anyways.

  4. Yep even over my way schools are starting to close.
Ballarat Grammar says it's closing it's doors on Thursday yet no cases have been reported at their school.
My uni has yet to do the same but it won't surprise me if it does.
We did get an email this morning about it.

but parents all had their kids signed up for spring break childcare, which is also being shut down. seems like parents are in pretty much the same predicament either way.

Well some are but also many parents take the week off, the impact would be a lot worse if it was done at a time that is not a regular vacation time. So teachers are paid anyways at the time, if a few days are added with pay it won’t hit the school as badly either, if this happened after in say, mid February, that is the point.

This is just insane, New York City mayor has ordered restaurants to close Bill de Blasio, the current mayor, ordered all restaurants to switch to delivery or takeout only as New York implements a series of measures to try to keep people at home. Restaurants that do open their doors will be fined and face arrest.

    That’s so dumb

The virus can still be spread by a cook or a delivery driver

It not New York City. IT is New York State. Take outs only . All bars are closed but are allowed take out drinks. Food store shelves are getting bare. Milk, bread, frozen foods and veggies are hit and miss to find . Stores are now opening at 6;30 am to allow Sr.'s and handicap persons to shop easier. And then will open later for the general population. With schools closed , And a lot of children depending on school meals to eat, Local restaurants are making " student lunches to go for anyone under the age of 18" for free. Groups of people no larger then 10 people are being advised All of our local schools and colleges are closed . And the local cable supplier is offering free internet service for anyone doing online classes. People are being advised to stay home if they can. And to avoid any travel unless it is to a food store, a drug store , or to a doctor or hospital for treatment. Visitors to hospitals are being restrictive to help reduce the spread of the virus

New Jersey, New York and Connecticut are all working under the same agreement between the three states.

are you in one of those states? What is happening with you regarding work, working from home or not? Will you work from home? What plans have you had to make in order to accommodate this isolation? :). Have you stored up on supplies, etc?

oh scratch the first question. :). Nudist guy in NY should have been a clue. :) Didn’t read you name past nudist guy. :)

Went to the store 1/2 hour after it opened this morning... I already have stuff but last week they had no milk and I also needed sugar for the Hummingbirds when they get here. (I don't use sugar myself) The store wasn't packed, but busy for 7:30AM. They had milk, low supply but there was some. Big sign with big letters "Limit 3 per household" (some other info about no multiple purchases, etc.) I get one, grab some sugar and the last jar of natural peanut butter as I walked passed, and head to the checkout.

Bunch of people waiting to check out, many holding two or three jumbo packs of toilet paper. (I'm sure there was a limit on those too) Luckily the girl in line in front of me allowed me to go ahead of her because she had 1/3 of the store in her cart, and I had 3 things. As I'm waiting in line I look over beyond the registers and there is a whole pile of milk containers that had been taken away from people because they couldn't read the fucking sign.... Who knows how long those milks are going to sit there before being returned to the cooler.

People need to seriously get a fucking grip... I mean really.

    No shit.
I went to the store last night to buy milk. They were out, in fact the whole fucking dairy aisle was empty. The freezers, for frozen food, empty.
