Darwin thought about EVOLUTION, not bombs ! He would not have recognized a bomb if you would have pushed it up his ass and exploded !
Newton had nothing to do with Nagasaki. If he would have been alive in 1945 the only thing he might have done with his Classical Mechanics is to estimate how much time the bomb would need to drop from the aircraft to the ground.
come on! you are 22 years old - dont you get irony yet? dont you understand wht I am saying even though I am using irony to do it? let me spell it out huh? IT ISNT THEORY (which science is) WHICH IS KILLING PEOPLE - ITS TECHNOLOGISTS technologists take the science and turn it into usable goods you think scientists killed those millions - NO technologists did I am saying do you think it was 15 tons of Darwins theories that killed the people in Hiroshima? no it was 15 tons of plutonium or whatever - but not made by a theorist - made by a technologist
Wrong words Made buy a scientist Hiroshima.. Little Boy, Barrel type weapon. Obsolete even at dropping. ~15 KT Nagasaki Fat Man...spherical compression weapon..forerunner of all weapons to come.Spherical explosive shell drives nuc material to crit level droped by a politician Be honest Occam
LOL You are still a young pup... Wet behind the ears. You will thank science one day for your playstation, your car, your food, your pimple cream, your antibiotics... Need I go on?
Well your typed this out on something science created...and unless you can fly or breathe fire i think science has it covered.
WHat they call 'science' in schools is garbage... Teach the METHOD... grind it in.. and humanity on this planet may have a chance. But no... THINKING.is not taught in schools...thinking leads to questioning. Questioning leads to dissent. Occam
hmm as an aspiring scientist, i would have to say whoever made this thread is a complete and total idiot. if you think that science is bullshit, go live in somallia for awhile. they dont have science that keeps you safe and ignorant in this country. they dont have the science that allows you to eat crops that have been created with genetic engineering, nor have they the technology to even get on the internet. i demand that this ignorant bastard be banned.
Well... next September I'm going to university to study theoretical physics and I have no problem with what citrus_seas is saying. Science is the safest thing to believe in nowadays. Our beliefs define who we are, therefore we like to know we're right. We'd rather build half a house from bricks and cement, than a whole house from rotating spheres. At least with cement we can see the connections, with the spheres we just have to accept that they're there...
Not sure what to say to the original poster, really don't want to qualify it with a response...as far as assuming he's using it to bring about a creationist angle, that's ludicrous, and not the rapping kind. I've been a Scientist now for more than a decade, and the more I learn, the more I realize how little we know and small we are. I feel Scientists are analogous to gorillas in a zoo. The smart gorilla in the corner observing the water fountain working and explaining to the others his "theory" on how it works. Scientists typically describe what's happening, but always along the analysis there's always a "but we're still not sure how/why". The more you learn about the miracle of life and of the universe, the more you'll appreciate that for all this to happen by mere accident (or Brownian motion), is an absurd notion.
I dont know whether what we see around us is coincidence defined by a handful of fundamental constants or divine creation, if not seen anything in my life to allow me to make that distinction, either way the outcome has to be pretty crazy. Im a physicist but that doesnt necessarily make me a scientist (much less a good one), science is a philosophy, a way to carry out an investigation. Chemistry is a science because of the way its done, if its done badly then its more like alchemy. Incidentally it is possible to turn lead into gold, just its way more expensive than buying gold. There are two notable weak points in the scientific method, the most obvious is human stupidity. The worst aspect of this is falsified results which has been in the news a bit in past months. A more subtle aspect is that scientific method relies on repeatability of results so by definition miracles can never be scientifically explained. So long as science is carried out reasonably well then no false truths should be accepted in the long run. If this is the case then religion should have nothign to fear if its correct, in fact in the long run the two should limit to the same conclusion so long as everyone is prepared to accept a belief can be wrong.
Well put. I would like to add that a decade ago in college when I worked for medical researcher at university, the principal investigator felt that he was getting to know G_d's power and the miracle of life over the course of conducting his research. The sentiment was rather touching...
In the past science has been the harshest opponent to those that believe in a God. With the current research being undertaken and our expanding knowledge of quantum mechanics and other modern physics it looks like the roles are slowly being reversed and science is now on the brink of possibly discovering cosmic consciousness’. And if not discovering, at least pointing out all the clues of its existence. The more I read in this area, the more it appears that what the ancient "seers" witnessed is proving to be true. I like science. But the reality is, as much as some surmise we know--we don't know shit! Science guys, please tell me how gravity works. Guess what? We really don't have any idea how gravity works. There are some great theories, and we have an idea. But WE DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THE MOST OBVIOUS THING IN THE WORLD WORKS. And you want me to let science answer all the big questions about the universe? We already have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the very fabric of the universe IS ENERGY. Matter is a buetiful illusion brought to you by energy vibrating at various frequencies at extremely HIGH rates of speed giving our senses the illusion of solidity. Quantum physics has shown that 99.9+% of everything you see consists of NOTHING and the WAY less than .01% is energy. Get your minds around that people
Theres a big difference between knowing what something is and being able to describe it. Once you can no longer see something or to be more precise once it becomes unknowable by our senses its impossible to 'say' exactly what it is. Last time this was discussed I compared this to trying to describe 'red' to a blind person. To illustrate this it is useful to take an example from quantum mechanics, wave-particle duality, implies that in some situations objects are waves, in others they are particles. The fact is they are neither, we use the words 'particles' and 'waves' because of the form of the equation used in certain situations. The Theory of Everything is the name given to a theory whereby everything we see in the universe can be described mathematically. However we will still not necessarily have a mental picture as words like wave, particle and string are purely descriptive and give people a handle. Having just said we have no idea how gravity works, a perfectly respectable stand, you then refer to 'vibrating energy' my guess it that your refering to superstrings. How can you say we know nothing about gravity and then quote possible the most speculative theory in history as fact. Also solidity comes from the presence of lots of atoms packed close together where a repulsive force from the Fermi exclusion principle prevents particles passing through. Recently a new type of solid called a supersolid has been discovered where solids can pass through each other, I dont have the reference but it was in nature which has as search engine.
Not to diverge from the original topic too much, can't help but smile at an intellectual debate such as this being found on such a forum, yet another theory being discredited, that tokers are dim wits and tokin' kills enourmous amounts of brain cells. Great info Tony, recall some of that from college days but your level of knowledge is quite impressive
