    There are solar powered well systems that are very simple & require NO batteries.

    Basically you have a few small solar panels, a relay, well with DC pump, and an elevated water tank. When the panels are producing the proper amount of power, the relay closes, the pump runs & pumps water into the tank. From there it is gravity fed. There is a level detection switch to prevent overfilling, although some folks just have an overflow pipe channeling extra water into... whatever.
    As there are no batteries, installation & maintenance are a lot less $$$. Almost no maintenance cost.

    Some systems pump only 1 gpm, but that adds up to 360 gallons per day, about 2500 gallons per week... and that's pretty much the minimum.
