Let me ask you how many eastern countries you have lived in... I grew up in India, as did half_a_hippie. I am sure he will agree with me that your picture is very badly skewed. Hindu tradition states that women are to be worshipped. Yes, in some places women are treated badly, very badly. But that is nothing to do with rleigion or place. Spousal abuse occurs in America also, on large scales. The rate of rape and sexual abuse is much higher there. And dont even let me open the subject of pedophilic priests. Just as the rapists and wife-beaters of America dont represent christianity, the violent of India dont represent Hinduism, the violent people of the middle east dont represent Islam. As for the subject of dignity, women in India are much more dignified, if you consider the number of strippers, lap dancers, hookers, porn stars, etc that flourish in the west. Is that dignity? Is that freedom? Americans and indeed, all outsiders, in India are given great hospitality. If your friend expreienced anything different then she must have been extraordinarily offensive. It is Hindu code to treat a guest as equal to God. After all it is the same divinity, in the form of the guest, that has come to your home, it is a great opportunity to serve the world. Service to the world is service to the lord, or, as someone else put it, he loves the lord best who loves his fellowmen. Women are not treated as cattle in India, but cattle are treated as women. They are given that much respect and love. Hindus have great reverence and love for ALL living creatures, not just humans, not just those who follow our religion.
Nicole, beautiful passages indeed. Sri Yogananda was a wonderful writer Have you read "the second coming of Christ?" It is a book everyone should read, christian or Hindu or any religion in between.
The people who receive Jesus Christ into their lives are people who can look at facts, which can be tested, and act on them. Those who care little about facts are the same one's calling people fools. Jesus Christ did not receive inspiration from Hinduism, because Jesus Christ was the God who created this world, as the Bible clearly points out. Those people who have been destroyed by God, are the same people who hate God, and His truth. If thats genocidal, so be it. As far as Ann Coutler, I don't even know who she is.
Its been one of my favourites in that book too...def. the one I think I've read the most. No, I haven't read it yet...I've been saving money...and I'm going to buy a used copy from Amazon.com or wait for it to come out in soft cover...but I have read the excerps that are on the SRF website and what I have read is amazing!
You missed the point entirely, if Jesus or His followers had simply said they had been lieing all the time, they would of been let go in most cases. Another words if they had been lieing, it is doubtful that most of them would of given up their life for an obvious lie. Jesus said that He did not come to this world to bring peace, but to seperate mother from daughter and father from son ect. If you think Christianity is in harmony with Hinduism, then you know nothing about Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ was the man that fulfilled the 300 Old Testament Prophecies. Being put to death was just one of the 300 He fulfilled. I suppose the message that we should love God above all things is insane to this world. Yes very radical. And the religious leaders of that day and the government were so evil, they did, what you would expect evil men would do. The put to death the Son of God.
First I would ask you what classical literature was written that was filled with hundreds of prophecies? And what person fulfilled those prophecies hundreds if not thousands of years later? What seperates the Bible from other Books, is it writes history before it happens. And the God of the Bible has spoken to me from time to time. The last time I heard His voice was about 20 years ago. Jesus Christ is more than a historical figure to me. He told me my wife was pregnant 4 hours before my wife knew she was. And He has always lifted me up in times of despair. I remember years ago I was on a beach where there was a lot of drinking and drugs going on and I ask Him if I could talk to someone about Him. Without ever getting up from where I was sitting I had no less than three people walk up to me and talk to me about Christ in less than 10 minutes from the time I prayed. Another time I failed a job interview and came home some what depressed. As I was going up to my room I heard a voice say to me, that I did everything but pray about it. So with that I went up to my parents bedroom and prayed about getting a job. As soon as I said amen and to the second, the phone next to me started ringing. I picked up the phone and the man on the other end without ever seeing me asked if I could go to work for him the next monday morning. I did and it was a great job. God has worked with me like this all of my life. I have had some really dramatic times with God. The Bible states that God sticks closer than a brother, and I'm here to tell you that's true. You don't get like me unless you have had an experience with God. He is a God of wonder, and He is coming again for His people. I don't need to study other religions, when you have the real thing. That is why Israel was scattered. They turned from the real God and they ended up spread across the earth. Only now as we approach the time of the end, is God returning them to their land. And yet He is not doing this for their sakes, but for His bigger plan.
It is the Bible that states that there is no other name under heaven given to men to be saved, but the name Jesus Christ. I don't see any other names in scripture mentioning Rama, Krishna, or Allah. Either Jesus Christ is a Liar, or the rest of these are but false Gods that come from false religions.
Let me say one thing here. According to the Bible, America is the end time Babylon. This nation is going to be judged by God severly. India will still be around when America is just a memory. I love this country and was even in it's Navy for a short time. But the Bible clearly states that northern nations will be raised up by God to silence this nations great voice and it states her cities will all burn, and she will come to her end in one hours time. America use to be a Christian nation. From the time the northern nations begin to threaten America with war there will only be a span of two years that will allow people to escape. It will be some time after this two years according to the scriptures the northern nations will attack. My friends were in Africa, and their compound came under attack from other Moslems. It was kind of funny when the Moslems were burning everything down the Christians kept praying that God would spare their church and hospital. About a week after the riots stopped, some of the Moslems could not understand why the church and hospital were still standing. They all said, that they could see the church and hospital in flames. That just shows you the power of prayer. What I thought was funny was even after they failed to burn both buildings down, they were in the hospital a week later for treatment of their wounds. Talk about not burning your bridges.
Well Jesus said the world will hate you, but remember, they hated me first. I could care less about religion, it is the person of Jesus Christ that I center on. And if you can imbrace all religions, especially when they all counterdict each other. Then truth is not a big thing with you anyway.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whsoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life. You can twist the verses any way you want, but it is Jesus Christ the person. Gods only Son that will give you eternal life. If you want to play games with your soul, that is your choice. But unlike you, the Bible does not play word games. The prophecies have been fulfilled literally, and the future prophecies that involve the Jews and Israel also are being fulfilled literally. As far as the translation of the Bible being in question. You only have to consider the Dead Sea scrolls that were discovered in 1947, and remained untouched for 2000 years. The Bible we have today is the same Bible that mirrors the scrolls. The evidence for the prophecies of the Bible is not shaky, it is your belief that has know evidence at all, that is in question. Better men than me have pulled these scrolls apart, and have walked away convinced of the accuracy of the text. And of my studies, and of my personal experiences with Jesus Christ have convinced me that there is only one person in the universe that can forgive sins. And that is, Jesus Christ.
America's Taliban -When will they sieze power ? Ann coutler is right at the top Those who did not know who ann coutler must read some of articles She makes george w bush sound like some liberal, intellectual hippie Dude I am done with you It is sooooooooo booooring trying to argue with you........
Well you see, your arguement is really not with me. I just refer all your questions to a biblical responce. The real problem you have is with the author of the Bible. I just happen to agree with the Bible, but I feel more like and outside observer. You see, if I did not know the Bible, I'm sure I would debate spiritual matters on a whole different level. Yet I'm sure it would be from a more humanistic view point.
No. The Bible doesn't mention the USA or India. This is just what American fundamentalists read into it. It is pure fantasy or brainwashing. Reading through this thread after my week away, it just strikes me that it is a sad example of how narrow and stupid some so called chriatians can be.
I would say this gives more proof for my religion than yours. People are killed all the time for religious convictions. Look at Iraq today. Sure, some visions are skewed, but they're still dying for a religion they firmly believe in. Jesus isn't the only martyr of religion.
Srimad Bhagavatam and various other puranas describe Buddha, these are texts which predate the bible by many thousands of years. Of course, you probably don't believe the buddha existed, do you? The state of current day India has been described in great detail in Srimad Bhagavatam and in Ramacharitmanas also. Prophesies have been made and fulfilled in many ways in Hinduism. Hindu scriptures predicted the aircraft. Many of the magical discoveries of modern science were already described in various puranas (test tube babies, plastic surgery, organ transplant, etc). Remember the tale of Abu Ben Adhem - He who loves his fellowmen is one who truly loves God. You are not being compassionate or loving. You repeatedly claim Hinduism is not in line with Christianity. But you have displayed amply, your utter and complete ignorance of even the most basic elements of Hinduism. Therefore, you have nothing but blind dogma to wrap your arguments around. I see no point in such an argument. I have studied both the bible and the upanishads. I see the same essential wisdom in both. You choose to close your eyes and cling to your narrow ideas. Your idea of God is that of a powermonger, a very strong entity that hurts and destroys those who do not love him, while giving good things to those who do. How is that lord better than you or me? Only that he has the power to repress people into following him! I refuse to believe in such a self-centered and tyrannical sultan of the sky. God as I know is infinite, infinitely loving, infinitely forgiving, infinitely compassionate. And in my own limited way I try to emulate that lord, by being loving, compassionate and understanding with others. Anyway, this discussion ends here, for it is deteriorating into pointless argument. I refuse to budge from universal acceptance and love, you refuse to be shifted from exclusiveness and hatred. I do admire your devotion to the Lord, lacking though it is in knowledge and understanding. Devotion will take you far, one day to be blessed with knowledge and peace also. Srikrishnarpitam.
Believe me,many fundamentalists believe America is the apple of Gods eye. And the name of America will not be found in the Old Testament, and neither will the name Jesus Christ, but I can assure you the person of Jesus and America are clearly mention there. I never said India was mentioned in the Bible.
Again you miss the point. Jesus and His followers were delt with one at a time. Each one could of said that the things that they were eye witinesses to were nothing but lies. But in every case they chose to die rather than live. If I knew something was an obvious lie I would not die for it. Yet everyone of these men did, which suggest to me the things they were eye witinesses to really did happen. It matters little that people are killed all the time because of religion that is a fact of life. The point I making here is, the men who really would be in a position to know the truth died for that truth. They died not for what they thought might be the truth. These men were eyewitiness to the actual miricles and events of Christ. The feeding of the five thousand, the raiseing of the dead, the restoring of the sight to the blind ect. These men died for what the actually saw and knew was true. Jesus is the only martyr who was prophecised to die for the sin of the world and fulfilled the 300 prophecies of the Old Testament. Jesus is the blood sacrifice. There is no other name given unto men to be saved, but the name Jesus Christ.
Well if the Bible was written by people alone with Poetic license they must of been people who also could predict the future in detail.
