some people grow up to be trash collectors and are happy doing that. Some of us want more out of life.
Trash collectors in my area went on strike a couple of years ago and ended up getting great medical and start at $50k a year. all they do is drive and pull levers. I'd be happy with $50 grand to pull levers.
Whether they are happy or not isn't the point. Their existence isn't defined by money. There is a lot more to them that you will never know about that has nothing to do with their money. And how would you even know if they are happy or not? The only thing money is good for is buying desires (which are endless), and providing a sense of security, (which really is a counter productive way to feeling secure).
I'll send you my address and you can send me all the money you get. Then You can be happy and I'll take on the burden of cash.
Not having money doesnt make anyone happy either. There's nothing special about money or the lack of money that can get you happiness.
Seriously though, it is very easy to hold that attitude when your young and have only yourself to worry about. I would be less concerned with money if I didn't have kids and wife to feed, clothe and provide a home for. The ideas put forth by some of the younger members of this community are very good, on target ideals, in another reality. Unfortunatly that isn't the reality we exist in. This planets cultures have always had some form of money or medium of exchange. It is nice to be able to declare these nice little platitudes, they give others the impression that you are spiritually mature and cause warm fuzzy's. But the truth of the matter is that you cannot deny the material aspect of our existance. I feel that all you guys talking about spiritual growth and yada yada yada, forget that unless it works in the REAL DAY TO DAY world we all share, it is of limited value. Neodude it's very easy to say money can't bring you happiness, I agree, but in the present state of our reality you would be very hard pressed to have a happy existance without it. Unless you can go live totally of the grid and provide for all your daily needs yourself.
You create your own reality. I completely understand everything you are expressing, however, I know that anything I need (particularly aspects of the material world) will always be provided for me by God/Universe/Source, whatever I want to call it. It's the Universe's way of saying "thank you". Providing you with what you need in order to survive so that you may focus your attention on something higher.
Prove it. That is what I mean, it's so easy to rattle off this type of stuff, but I have yet to see anyone actually live by those type of ideals, at least not for a very long time. I would love to revisit some of these conversations with some of you in 25 years after youv'e had the chance to live long enough to get over all the idealistic reaching for the clouds phase of human development. I bet a lot of you would look back and ask yourselves "Was I really that naive?"
I live it everyday. I think you know that I have no way to prove it to you, but your unwillingness to accept this type of lifestyle is the entire reason you want proof to justify it's existence anyways. I bet that does happen to a lot of people. However, a lot is not everyone. I'm not at fault for your giving up on your ideals, PB_Smith. It also doesn't mean that I will give up on mine. And this isn't even an "ideal" we are talking about - this is my everyday reality.
having muscles is just somthing u should do. u just think, ur hookin up with a hot bitch, no wait, say ur gf is really pretty and u grab her all the time and shes fuckin awsum. but u dont have any muscles to give back to her u know. if im with a hot chick, i want them to have somthing too. girls are born with hotness, men have to workout for it. and why wouldnt u workout. its ur body, it makes u feel good. it makes u more confident.
as for the money thing. u become accustomed to any amount of money u have. money can buy happinesss but it is shortlived. u then become accustomed to it, and whatever life problems u have will be there and u can and will still be depressed. if u have little money, u become accustomed to that too, u work around it. u still buy the things u really want in life. whether it be an xbox or somthing lol. but yeah
Money and a 'good' job are a false sense of security. In the blink of an eye, your paper money could be worthless, and/or you could loose your job, all from factors that you have no control over. Therefore I see no reason for a person like myself to set goals and priorities focusing mainly on money. For PB_Smith it is different though. He has a family that he needs to feed. Part of this task is based on adaptility though, because if money was to become worthless or he was to loose his job he would find other ways to get food and other necesities. The ability to adapt to your environment and circumstances would give me more of a secure feeling than a job or large bank account would. At the same time, I do not yet have a family to provide for, but even if I did the ability to adapt could keep you afloat in situations that are otherwise grim.
How can you claim to live it everyday while posting on the internet from what I presume is your computer which you paid for with money from...? I'm guessing your living in your parents house? And as for all those knocking a false sense of security... irrelevant of how 'real' it is, it is still a comforting sense to have.
