    When I turned 21 I started to hit up the 21+ club scene, in those days Deep House was an up and coming genre. We rolled in Party Crews and almost always had VIP access to the club.

    This song takes me back to the days of rollin to the club 20 cars deep with me and my homies.

    In my early 20s my friends and I would go to these "formal" New Years parties. The guys would get dressed up in a suit and tie and girls would put in their best dresses.

    One year on New Years Eve, I was on my way to meet up with my friends and this song was playing on radio, I remember thinking if it was some kind of an Omen. I ended up crashing my car that night, nobody got hurt but I was kinda scary (cops showed up and everything). In the end we still made it to our New Years party and had one of the best nights of my life.

    This song will always remind me of that night.

    Emancipator - First Snow.

    The true epicness of this song starts at around 3:00, it's musical orgasm as far as I'm concerned.

    This song is the one that really got me into Electronic Music and the Rave Scene. Back then the rave scene was illegal and underground. We had to call a phone number the night of the party to find the map point and then were driven to a secret location in school buses. The parties were amazing and good vibes all around. I remember staying up all night and welcoming the new day with open arms.

    i basically just watched the documentary and story behind this song and album's pretty good.

    in a nutshell(with spoilers);
    this bloke came out with two albums in the US, didn't do at all well (completely bombed), basically disapeared. but one of his records found its way to south Africa and struck a chord with people there, people couldn't get hold of it so they made tapes of the one copy that got over, soon, someone bought the rights and to make more and it became absolutely huge, like the beatles, bob dylan huge. in fact, it became the soundtrack to the anti-apartheid movement and many activists claim to have been inspired by his work. someone in the doc literally says "we had never even heard the term "anti-establishment" before we heard that record."

    he didn't know this, of course, and only discovered he was famous in 1998, when his daughter googled his name and found a website dedicated to him.

    everyone in south africa believed that he'd killed himself in the 70's. but rumours about how he died ranged from gun to the head on stage to burning himself to death like a Buddhist monk.

    in order to find out what really happened to him, some fans looked at his lyrics to try and figure out what really happened to him.

    great documentary, (although it lies a little, by omission), i've been listening to his two albums, and they're good.

    Manuel Göttsching is one of my favorite artists, period, and E2-E4 is my favorite of his albums, closely followed by New Age of Earth, Starring Rosi, Inventions For Electric Guitar, Schwingungen, and Correlations, pretty much in that order. I get a kick out of the sharp divide this record set in place among fans of electronic music, and particularly the people who find the guitar playing to detract from the beauty of the piece. A reviewer on RA notoriously suggested that it sounded like a "mediocre guitarist noodling around at home" in his write-up on the 25th Anniversary reissue, after admitting in his opening paragraph that he was unfamiliar with Manuel entirely before reviewing this work. Regardless of how ground-breaking or important this record may or may not be to the history of techno (a genre which I largely despise anyway), this record is awesome and to my mind it is Manuel's highest achievement.
