that electric thing is just for the deck...it works great even if 2 feet of snow...you just do it in 2 steps

 

Interesting. I don't have a deck, but I have a flight of stone/concrete stairs from the driveway to the door. Would something like that be of any use on a stairway?

 

Having trouble with my internet today...

Going to have 2 overnight guests tonight, going to get here around 3:30...

Without Internet, we are nothing.

Sitting on my bed using Internet to access my office servers. The storm isn't bad here so far, just a lot of snow. Sometime this evening the wind is expected to start, with gusts up to 50 - 70 mph. The governor of MA has signed an order banning all vehicle traffic on state roads after 4:00 PM so emergency vehicles can get where they need to go. The commuter trains and Amtrak will also stop running at that point. Keeping fingers crossed for no power outages.

We were in the 60's yesterday only in the 30's today...I just came in from filling up the woodbox...

 

Thanks countrygirl. I have some firewood if we need it, but not more than a couple days' worth. We've had two major storms here in the past couple years - hopefully most of the stuff that could blow down and mess up power lines has already done so and been removed.

Sunday night my 19-year-old son is supposed to head to Logan Airport and catch a flight to Mississippi to begin his 10-month Americorps stint - following in the footsteps of his older brother, who did this in 2011.

 

My son was in a bad mood yesterday, hope he's in a better mood when he gets home from work today...

the fuckin news stations fascinate me how they have coverage on SNOW all day...its friggen SNOW! Not to mention, the storm hasn't even got REALLY bad out there...right now, its manageable...

It's understandable he would have bad days...I sure know how that is.

Yeah, I see. Seems like what's needed for stairs is maybe sort of a mini version of that. The trouble with deep snow on stairs is that you hafta somehow keep your footing when you can't tell whether your feet are on a flat surface or an edge. Of course, I could just go out every hour or so and re-do the stairs until the snow stops. But the big snow drop for this storm is supposed to come while I'm sleeping.

It's probably not a bad idea to keep folks informed that they need to be off the roads as of 30 minutes ago or else face a fine or jail time. It's probably also not bad to be letting people know it's expected to get a lot worse. Not that there's a lot anybody can do about it at this point - if you're not prepared by now, you're basically SOL if shit gets real.
