How would you propose collecting the millions of firearms already out there? That's what makes this discussion theoretical.

Prohibition doesn't work. It also increases organized crime.

Millions of people could build their own guns with the proper knowledge. Guns were being built before machines.

Well of course he put it wrong, a machine can be two rocks...

But you can build a gun in your garage... I have an infographic that tells you how to build a 12 gague out of supplies available at any hardware/plumbing store... and another that shows how to make a mortar.... A flare gun can be made into a pocket sized RPG... grenades can be made out of tennis balls, hot glue, rocks, and any even mildly explosive material.... Hell, you can retrofit half the small devices in the world to fire a .22 shell... and if you're that desperate for supplies, make a small caliber muzzle loader from anything.

Say it with me.... "when you outlaw guns...."

Just like was said, it's rather like trying to outlaw drugs.

I mean before modern facilities. Guns can be make in a workshop with simple machinery.

guns can even be made with handtools.. will certain tool, machine, and material sales be under strict control if guns are made illegal?

No, he, and you, are both wrong...

And this has nothing to do with calling two rocks a machine...

There were mechanical devices (machines) long before there were guns.

that doesn't mean machines are required to make guns. not to mention a gun IS a mechanical device.

Well that was my point.. I don't mean that the tools of the gunsmithing trade are rough stones :p

Just saying that machines don't have to be a whole factory tooled to do nothing but produce guns, you can do it with a chunk of metal and a drill...

Yeah, guns can be made with simple tools...

A gun can be made with a pipe and a bullet... or even a pipe, some gunpowder and a projectile...

How they can be made, has nothing to do with whether or not they SHOULD be banned. Neither does whether or not it is possible to gather up all the ones that are in existence...

As for should they be banned... I've already stated my opinion that they shouldn't be.

Well even if they where not easy to make and WHERE easy to collect, I wouldn't think they should be banned, but for those who do think so, it might be a good idea to weigh those into their mental image of how this would work out...

i misread. i thought mad cap said that guns can be built without machines, not that guns were being built before machines. the former is true, the latter not so much.

in the american colonies however, guns were being built before there were machines to build guns.

Adding extra noise to issues does not help the issues.. it distracts from them... which is why tptb love doing so...

It being hard to collect them, ban them or stop people from getting them is totally irrelevent as to whether or not people should have them.

There is NOTHING wrong with owning a gun... PERIOD....

There is something wrong with using a gun inappropriately and irresponsibly... these are the actions that should be targeted...

    NOT gun ownership.

I still don't understand why people want to hold onto their guns so fucking badly. Wake up, you all are worried about the 'bad guys', like some game of cops and robbers.

There's plenty of countries in the world in which guns (besides hunting rifles) are banned and they have low gun violence rates/murder rates to prove that it works. Lose the John Wayne attitude. Seriously. It sounds like brainwash.
