And there's plenty of countries around the world with high rates of gun ownership that have very low crime rates. Why are you so determined to take away the ability of a regular people to arm themselves. It's a knee jerk reaction to gun crime, gun laws have no correlation one way or the other on gun crime. Gun restrictions normally are a feel good measure to ignore the actual deeper societal problems.

I must be a real wrench in your theories... lol

I don't think most people should own guns... but I would fight to the death to protect the right to own one (or more).

Why? Really really simple... I don't expect our societies to continue as they are... I expect them to either crash, or turn into blatant dictatorships... at the end of a gun...

Why in the hell would I want to be un-armed when those are the only futures I see?

    Why would anyone?

Right and your country has obviously shown that it can't handle the responsibilty of having guns.

What do you do when a kid hits his friend over the head with a toy? Take the toy away from the fucking kid and tell him that was wrong.

Maybe there is more than just those two outcomes. Maybe there's an outcome in which no one needs a gun.

Nice straw man. Plenty of people have firearms for recreational enjoyment and don't even consider their possibility for personal protection. I was raised around guns, I like target practice, I like cleaning and maintaining guns, I like shooting them. Give me one valid reason why I shouldn't have access to fire arms.
It's a right, and you may disagree with the Constitution and spout rhetoric about how it was written by racists, but until you come up with a compelling reason to prop up yet another ban upon the citizenry , you're are just being blindly reactionary.

Is your entire stance on this topic based on stereotypes?
You're the one who sounds brain washed brother.

I hunt geese, and i don't want to get rid of my shotguns. Is that a problem?

There are shootings all the time, people die all the time from gun violence, but because a congress woman and a judge get shot its a big deal, this is my problem. Its not directed really at anyone here, but now america wants to question guns laws, its a joke, and everyone will eventually forget about it until someone else "important" gets shot.

I say no, guns shouldn't be banned. But they shouldn't be as easy to get.

Yeah, but what you are putting forward is
"What do you do when a kid hits his friend over the head with a toy? Take away all the toys from all the kids."
    It's illogical.

And what do you do when someone shoots somebody, or is convicted of any felony? You say hey, you can't own a gun anymore. But apparently that doesn't stop them.. i wonder why?

    Maybe there is...

If I'm wrong, and I have my guns... a good future is still possible for me and those I love...

If you're wrong and I don't have my guns, there is no future...

Why would I bet on your side?

Yep, you are 100% right... that is EXACTLY what you do...

What you DON'T do.... is take all toys away from all kids.

    Do I really need one...

Given their history of use in your country they should be banned. One could argue that a pool cue could be used to kill, a knife, a dart, rope, a toaster even, but the thing is all of those things serve other purposes. Aside from a hunting rifle, what purpose does owning any other sort of gun serve? Registered hunting rifles are one thing, the rest are unnecessary.

No, I'm about to go into how banning guns could improve erectile dysfunction.

    Brain-washed, how?

And what part of my post did you find stereotypical? The fact that I said your country has a problem with gun violence, or the Duke reference?

"Hey, pilgrim! You forgot your pop gun!"

Right, but kids should find other things to play with or learn not to hurt their friends.

So your assertion is that it's only purpose is to kill, so therefore it should be banned?
So what about swords, bows, tactical knives, or any other weaponry?
Shall it also now be illegal to hunt unless you can bring down wildlife with your bare hands?

Or are guns only intended for hunting OK? So we are left with the hunting rifle? You do realize that people hunt with shotguns and pistols as well, right?

The parts where you keep referencing the Old West aesthetic, as if everyone in America is packing heat and looking to fire from the hip at a moments notice.

No man.... you should know that won't work....

Your words.... you take the toy away from the child and tell them it was wrong...

If someone abuses or misuses a weapon, or shows otherwise a lack of responsibility, then it is perfectly fine to say, that person shouldn't own a gun...

If you want to argue that ALL guns period.... civilian, leo, military and such, hell.. I 'll go along with you 100%...

You argue that one single person or entity should have a gun of any type, and I will fight you to the death in support of me having the same right...

We can't even agree to get rid of nuclear weapons, guns are never going away.

I think you missed the edit of my post. Registered hunting rifles are one thing, the rest of the guns for sale are another. Although one could still kill with a hunting rifle, the crime rate would likely drastically lower. With that comes a more healthy attitude towards guns and a much safer society.

"People hunt with pistols and shotguns"; they can hunt just the same with a rifle, no need for pistols and shotguns.

What about them? Last time I checked this wasn't ancient China. No need for them. Those swords you can buy at specialty shops aren't even that sharp. If someone wants a sword that badly they can buy one of those.

Why is it your country needs weapons so badly? That's the bigger question here.

    Fair enough.

What, exactly, makes it ok to outlaw owning matter?

I can't get over the sillyness of outlawing substances, drugs or weapons or anything else. Things don't hurt people, people hurt people.

It's a small step from outlawing one substance, to outlawing another, or for punishing someone because you consider their substance too close. It's a slippery slope.

If you ban tryptophan, why not register milk jugs (like hunting rifles) because it contains tryptophan?

If you ban guns, why not register pewter soldiers because they could be melted into bullets, or pipe, because it can be made into gun barrels?

Take another step, and outlaw knives. Then why not outlaw hammers and anvils, to prevent backyard production of knives?

If you outlaw (highly deadly) chlorine gas, better outlaw piss and clean toilets, because if you piss on bleach it makes chlorine gas.

Fuck it, let's just outlaw protons, electrons, and neutrons, without those no one can possibly make anything illegal.

So you're saying that all people should have the right to own a gun? I'm sorry I'm a little confused by your wording near the end.

Right, but the problem with that is that it is only a safety measure after they've fucked up. Some sort of law needs to be in place that will potentially be more preemptive.
