wow everyones tams are awesome! heres one i finished yesterday. its the perfect size for my dreads! i usually make them for bigger hair but this ones for me sry if those are a bit big
i love this thread. everyone's stuff rocks. wanderin_blues, what kind of yarn did you use? it looks like a great texture for rubbing up against roots!
thanks guys its a totaly random mix lol. almost all of my yarn is second hand or gifts so its hard to say exactly whats in it. i know the dark grey is sheeps wool, the light grey is buffalo wool, theres a bit of handspun something or other and the blue is a mystery but it feels like sheeps wool. buffalo wool is amazing for locking. i have a tam made of it and its just the best. super soft and warm too.
my new loch ness monster hat. i'm so proud of this cause i tried something new and scary and i love how it came out.
here are a few new ones to my shop, some of them are cheaper items than my usual luxury wool ones. These ones here start at $25. www.arliaflower.etsy.com
i fucking love the orange and blue wrap in the middle. i wanted to buy it on your etsy site, BUT... i noticed it's all wool! and i'm so allergic to wool it makes me itch like a devil. i just can't imagine putting it on my head. you ever make anything with cotton or anything like that that wouldn't itch my head?? that blue/orange wrap just is so hot! course it's probably way hotter on you than it would be on me....
knitin chic makes lovely tams, there is one in the post for me as we speak, we did a trade. nakedtreehugger what yarn would be better for you? I have some sari silk and banana fiber yarn on its way, I have some acrylic bits too, but i tend not to use them so much. let me know and Il see what I can whip up
nice, when i got mine from her, well 1st off was the cheapest tam i ever saw but there was a screw up in the mail which i think was more likely my fault then hers so there was a long delay before she got the $ i think...so she sent me 2 instead of 1...love her forever for that but arlia..allways been really impressed with your work, ya can tell u put alot into it (and must work your ass off to produce as many as u do) i definately been plannin on gettin 1 from u 1 of these days whats the sari silk & banana fiber like? what would be the best material that could stretch to hold like (guessing) 20-25 pounds of dreads but retain its shape and fit? the prob i habve is they tend to stretch out around the brim, so they start to float and pop off edit to add: wow just saw the 1 knittin made for you...i love that..thats 1 of the nicest ive seen i think congrats i know youll be happy and u better post a pic modeling it on u when u get it
yeah sari silk is very sturdy, it the silk remnants from sari making, then they recycle it and spin it into yarn. some men say that it is on the more girlie side :-/ But im trying to make some manly ones. If I did one for your dreads Id need something very chunky and sturdy....if I ever find such a yarn I will let you know. I bet its a real hassle trying to squeeze them all into something
arlia... do you have any pictures of what the sari silk or banana fibre yarns look like? sounds very beautiful and very exotic! aside from the fact that i'm allergic to wool, my head is not very big, and my locks are not long yet... so something big and chunky would probably engulf me. sounds like these types of materials might be good for me... i love all these custom dread wraps, and you make such gorgeous clothing... i can't wait to get this move done so i can pull out the sewing machine i have ("stolen"/borrowed) and learn to sew cool things too!
here is a seller that sells sari silk yarn www.zaarucrafts.etsy.com and here is some of my previous work in sari silk so you can get an idea of it..... Would be great to see some handmade stuff from you when you get started. and your dreads are super sweet by the way
