I like both, but I've been a fan of the Simpsons for longer, and I've consistantly said it's my favorite show. But I love South Park a lot too. "If I'm ever hooked up to a feeding tube about to die... please don't show me on tv."
The Simpsons is probably the greatest cartoon ever, and South Park is one of the greatest shows ever, but, over the years, The Simpsons have slacking in the humour depatment and they seem to be having way to many celebrity guest stars.
I love south park. Im a co native so things that the rest of the country dont understand are halarious to me. Casa Bonita? Its a real place. Cliff divers and all. Colfax, true, hippies in boulder true. Its classic for a co native. Namaste
i like southpark better most of the time, but sometimes its too much for me (witness mr hankey...something mildly amusing about it, but i just dont like that many poop jokes) simpsons is great, too, and less often doesn't go too far, but more often isn't quite as funny. either way, i'd say futurama and family guy BOTH kick the asses of southpark OR simpsons. also, i move that the person above me has an incredible sig pic
hey... (sorry to de-rail the thread) I heard that boulder, CO recently changed the law to make marijuana legal, a huge step forward.... I did get this news from conan o'brien so can you please confirm this is true? If so, does that mean its legal to sell marijuana like in stores or bars, or is it merely legal only to posess? In my opinion, it can be legal to posess all you want, but if its not also legal to sell, then what is the point? And if it is legal to posess, does this mean you can drive around in your car smoking joints and the cops shouldnt hassle you???
they are 2 completely different shows, but i'd have to say i like south park more. what can i say, i like crude humor more
They made it legal in the city of denver to carry up to 1 oz of weed. Your not allowed to smoke it. but carrying it is half the battle. A step in the right direction. So no conan wasnt right. not sure about selling though.
Older Simpsons episodes are absolutely classic, some of the funniest cartoons ever made, but the new ones are pretty weak. I like South Park a lot too, but it's a completely different type of humour - I think that the (older) Simpons episodes deifinitely have more staying power and are far more layered than south Park - you can watch them over and over, and pick up new things that you hadn't noticed before, whereas with South Park the humour is very much over the top and in your face, so it's hilarious the first or second time you watch it, but gets boring after a while.
I loved the Simpsons growing up, but the new episodes are completly stale, it's like a freaking Hanna Barbera cartoon new. There are just some zanny freaking misadventures now, they should cancel it. The shows wonderfully topical and witty. They won an emmy for the Best Friends Forever episode they showed like 12 hours before that Shiavo chick died. I love the one where god's that little rat thing and says he's a buddhist too.
I love the dark satire of South Park. The fact that they take it so far makes it awkwardly amusing. I enjoy The Simpsons too... but I find myself watching more South Park than The Simpsons.
Hands down, South Park. Few years ago, I would've had a hard time with this question. However, Simpsons has gone drastically downhill, these past few years, while South Park has been steadily getting better and better, if you ask me. They're so whacky now (in the good way, Simpsons has gone whacky in the bad way) that it's just hilarious.
Both shows are truly glorious. I like the Simpsons for the fact that it covers all of the characters in todays western societies. To me, no individual character is more funny than another. Its the way each charater interacts with all the others that holds the show together. The simpsons wouldnt be the same without the vast range of characters involved. Many people cannot see beyond the seemingly stupid characters and unrealistic situations but once you understand that it is all social / political commentry, the show has new depth and meaning. I wouldnt expect anyone to find the Simpsons funny if they didnt GET IT! Old Simpsons episodes are gold. New episodes are gold too...they are just different. Sure the show has gotten wackier but they still get their point accross and I think The Simpsons has changed with the times reasonably well. Its the same sort of story with Southpark although SP is a bit more raw and focuses on the youth as main characters (as opposed to a family like the Simpsons). Like the Simpsons, South Park is social / political commentry. If you look beyond the seemingly stupid animations, you can see the intelligence behind. I agree that South Park has just gotten better and better. Both programs to me are classic. If I had to choose on though I would probably choose The Simpsons, mainly because it is a more diverse.
