This hardcore punk I speak of is a band called Prong. I've been trying to get people to listen to them for years, but to no avail. People think I have terrible taste in music. Either you can listen to them and like it or you can be close minded and no better than me (supposedly)
will check these out .why not make a new thread up see what feedback the group gets? . just a thought.
Well, its not really that important to me what the forums think of them. I could care less. I think they are totally bad ass, and I only suggested them. Who cares if everyone else likes them. Most of the music I listen to no one likes, and I'm ok with that.
Prong kicks ass, but they have nothing to do with ska or punk. they are Hard rock/metal. Maybe industrial. Id group them with Ministry before i would ever suggest them to someone wanting ska.
there's a few good bands from NZ like The Managers . I saw them the other day - they are wicked to dance to. Check out "My Mistake" - their ska cover of a 70s Split Endz song. It's awesome. you can download some other samples and hear some of their stuff on here http://www.themanagers.co.nz/homepage.htm but it isn't nearly as good as hearing them live, i'm afraid. Other bands like The Offbeats and The WBC are pretty awesome too.
Hard rock yes. Metal no. perhaps a bit of industrial. But I don't think I'd group them with Ministry. Speaking of ministry, have you ever heard of Nevermore? Its got the same guy from Ministry, and what I've heard sounds like good old Ministry.
Some of these are repeats but it's ok to reinforce the point across: MAD CADDIES - I could dance around to their music for the rest of my life Big D and the Kids Table Slackers Catch 22 Mephiskapheles Lucky Boys Confusion - I love the singers voice; like inviting you to MOVE Reel Big Fish Less Than Jake (their older stuff until they went and SOLD OUT) The Propaghandi version of "Ska Sucks" makes me laugh everytime just because they played it with a twinge of ska to make it ironic. It's pretty pathetic when someone blatantly slanders other people's musical taste because everyone has different opinions. This is what we listen to and this is what we like just as you listen to what you like. I know many people believe that "ska is dead" but it still lives on in the hearts and minds of people that enjoy it and people that are still discovering this genre of music today. Something can not be dead until everyone assumes it to be, and I damn sure believe that Ska is an integral part of my being. It's what I wake up to in the morning and the last thing I listen to before I go to bed at night.
