I slightly disagree. I think that we suffer for reasons much deeper than that, reasons that we have no control over. Even a person who expects absolutely nothing out of life still suffers, as all humans do. There is an internal suffering in us that nothing can distinguish.
We suffer because we can't be the object of our desire. And the reason we can't be the object of our own desire is because we are finite.
OR you could say we suffer because we all secretly crave cheesecake but for health reasons and the fact that it would not be good to cover the earth with cows means that we can only have a limited amount of cheesecake and thus we suffer. WHY IS LIFE SO CRUEL?
but frankly, i think that internal suffering is still related to desire and our inability to completely eliminate it.
I would translate it, but well... it wouldn't be of much use. I tried to youtube it, but it's tricky to youtube in Russian, so I can't find the video either.
Urgh, no according to pavel it does. Actually, I am inclined to agree with you, but pavel is choosing to focus on the whole death aspect, which I suspect the song is not really about at all. Surely you didn't read the original post then.
I think that it's much more logical than anything written in the Bible. I would say that it's just as insubstantial as any other philosophical thought ever expressed by any man. But that's why I said that it was only a fun idea, nothing more than that. I posted it here to discuss it a bit, as an idea, in good fun, it is kinda sad that you'd jump upon anything like that with such rather blatant criticism instead of giving it a chance, just for kicks if anything.
In a way, sure, I'm not arguing with that, and I think that on the surface it deals heavily with desire, yet I'm talking about something deeper than that, something that's engraved in us, something we have no control over.
Yet again, I simply don't think that you understand what I'm getting at. I am not disagreeing with you.
You hate chuck palahniuk, I say potato, you say potata, I say tomato, you say tomata. Its great that it interests you, but it just doesn't interest me at all, just like a lot of things don't interest you.
Suffering is caused by failure to accept what is; like Face Eater said, when reality doesn't match our expectations we might suffer. (why I try to limit my expectations) One might argue that there are different kinds of suffering, like pain, but suffering only arises when you refuse to accept that you are in pain. The pain is fleeting, just like everything else that is. Sure, we are slowly dying in a sense, but many people would (and have, in this thread) argue that, if we choose, we can live as opposed to die. I don't look at death in a negative way at all, it will be a welcome end to this life of unavoidable suffering, but meanwhile I will enjoy my life and live it up every day.
sure.. like a longing for the source, to look "god" in the eyes so to speak, to somehow physically manifest the intangible. that's why we have religion, so we can trick ourselves into thinking it's possible, when it isn't... in that way i can understand how this could kind of fit in with the way you understood the song. we do not know death, we do not know god, but we are constantly surrounded by it.
If it doesn't interest you, then why bother even having this discussion? There's a Angkhor Wat thread there with pretty pictures, maybe you should check that one out.
