When the hell did I say that? This is a masive humanitarian problem, and will require much assistance.

But Loiusianna and Missisippi have already been declared disaster areas, and will recive federal disaster aid. Almost all of the property was insured. I'm suggesting that the proper methods to deal with this crisis are in place in the US which do not exist in the rest of the world.

You're suggesting that we shouldn't give humanitarian aid because bad things happen here, we don't require as much assistance as Thailand, and you're saying a have a skewed perception of reality?

    wow.

I just watched this video bit from a CNN photographer. It was shot from an altitude of 5000 feet. It shows Gulfport and Biloxi (I think). You can get the video from CNN's main page; look for "Katrina coastal damage". It's 3:29 long. Reminiscent of the images from Indonesia. So yeah, it's pretty bad and going to get a lot worse.

Sir, if oil hits $100 a barrel, and the US collapses, I will post pictures on here of me eating my hat. [IMG]

Probably because I'll need to save my food budget for gas.

If you just lost everything you own and have no food, I think you'd be looting as well. I have no shame saying that if I was in that situation, I would be getting as much as I could carry out of grocery stores to feed myself and my family. It's not like the food will be good for long anyway.

    Let's bid New Orleans farewell.

I think that if the water ever subsides, they rebuild it somewhere else.
