tyler will never be cancer free, barring a miracle. but hopefully, he can life long enough to make it okay. a lot of cancers can be mostly eradicated from the body, not the freaky fuck rare shit tyler managed to contract. WTF?! pray it's not over 25% in his bone marrow.

no need to be sorry. unless we have someone in our family with cancer, its wicked hard to understand how you are feeling, but you can be pissy and shitty to us - i dont' mind.

just continue being his buddy. from the kids i worked with over the summer, some had life threatening cancers, inoperable tumors and such...they just wanted to be treated the same as always...so continue watching movies, reading to him...whatever...just be there for him. its hard for you...but it makes him feel better :)

it sucks seeing such a young kid have such a rare cancer

well, he's 14 now. right at a truly crucial age. when i first saw him, holding his daddy's hand as he walked down the steps to the basement room i was renting in a house in durango, he was so TINY and so sweet. his face was sticky and he was holding a little book and he had NO IDEA why the hell daddy was taking him to meet this lady in durango. and we drove back down to farmington, and all he wanted was for me to tickle him (as he sat in the seat between us in dave 2 seater truck) and to play candyland. now he's telling me how to fix my cell phone and "personalizing" my myspace page. he's taller than his daddy now and so proud. he wants to know all about his baby sisters and giving me sage advice on how to deal with them (he's so experienced with the little ones). 6 weeks ago he was fine. it doesn't seem right. it's too fast. it's too scary, and he's dealing with it better than any of us. he's still going to harvard, you know?

You have every right to be pissy and shitty. Your young friend and kindred spirit could probably use your support and strength so feel free to vent, be angry, cry here so you can be strong with him. I'm sure his wish will be something awesome and will include you... then he can go about the business of getting better so he can cash in on a full scholarship at Harvard.

lol *sniffle* yeah. "thanks very much! i'm feeling better!" one can only hope. he's too spectacular a young man to lose now. the world would be less for his loss. i have to know that the world knows it, too. i'm feeling a bit down, at the moment. but i know, in the long run, that hell be okay no matter what.

He sounds like a strong little guy. That's honestly better then anything I can wish for you.

But that's horrible. If you ever want to talk about it, feel free to talk about it here, or PM me.

Think about that you can now take your time together to be even more meaningful. That's a gift a lot of people don't ever get to share.

Right now, he needs your love and friendship. So be pissed off by all means, but just don't let it get in between you. He's your boy, and that's all that matters.

Some charities diagnosis doesn't change anything about his condition. Just look into his eyes and tell him you'll be there for him.

You and your stepson have my best KC.

you know, in the bright light of the morning, it's a bit easeir to handle. it's like having a bucket of ice water thrown on you over and over again. you get used to the cold, but then next bucket is just as much a shock as the first one. thanks for letting me unload, guy. i appreciate it.

I know it's hard to feel optimistic when you get such bad news, but there is always a glimmer of hope, even in the darkest cave, KC. When I was a junior in high school, an eighth grader, a friend of a friend, was diagnosed with both lymphoma and leukemia. He was given three months, tops. But I never saw that kid feel sorry for himself or lose any of his amazing sense of humor. He went through a rigorous battery of surgery, chemo, and radiation, his heart started to give out, other organs tried to follow suit. Make a Wish contacted them and the bastards wouldn't buy him a car, they said, "Cars kill people, wouldn't you rather go to Disneyworld?" His reply was, "People die at Disneyworld almost yearly, I could die in a car almost any day, regardless of whether it's mine or not, and I'm dying anyway you bastards!" ...I don't think they gave him the car, but it is amusing that he told the Make a Wish foundation to fuck off.

But that kid fought like hell, and he was out of the hospital before his freshman year of high school started. Sure, he still was in and out for a week or two here and there, but he was 13 when he was diagnosed, and now he is 16 years old, in full-remission.

Just treasure what you've got left, KC...whether it be only a little bit, or the rest of your life.

Best of luck, your stepson will be in my thoughts.

guess we're talking about bone marrow cancer... my father had bone cancer and had to get blood transfusions cuz his bones stopped making blood... he was very tolerant of pain and was offered early on to have pain killers but chose to live... die without them... if me, shoot me up baby... at least i'd enjoy the ride out

back to kc and tyler's journey,... my heart goes out to the challenges this presents

no doubt. tyler's cancer is unheard of in anyone under that age of 45. average age to get it is 60. so the docs are really trippin. it's a non hodgkins lymphoma.

docs told my dad that somewhere in his life, he had to have been exposed to radiation to get his bone cancer... do the docs think radiation maybe played a part in tyler's condition?... any radiation in the neighborhood?.. i know at one time you lived in new mexico which has quite a bit of radioactive tilings from all the uranium mining
