I'm proud of the south but it has nothing to do with the flag. I'm very connected with the natural geography of the south, warm muddy rivers in the summer and the blue ridge mountains and things of that nature. And I'm proud of the softer southern accents (some southern accents are awful, some sound like pure class) and how friendly everyone is (although tbh I've found the same up north and out west) and I like the fact that everyone waves when they pass you on the street. And I'm proud of southern cooking even though I rarely eat it. And even though I bitch all summer long about the heat and humidity I would never trade it for harsh northern winters. And I'm proud of how many northern and international transplants have moved to my city in the last 15 years which means we must be doing something right.I'm really proud that due to aggressive integration in the 60s and 70s the south is now the most integrated part of the country. but the flag? Meh. It just never even crossed my radar until all this hubbabaloo.
Might I suggest, you enjoy the South. I think to be proud of the South one would have to have a hand in creating the South. Who did that? Who created the terrain and climate? Who created the accent; the genteelness? Who created the cooking? I certainly didn't create any of it. I enjoy it but I can't say I'm proud of it.
So let me get this straight. you are not a racist and think people who associate the confederate flag with racism are wrong? Yet the only anecdotes concerning rude and stupid "northerners" are about black people, and it actually had nothing to do with the conversation. Yeah, sure your not a racist..... just another ignorant good ole' boy, right.
speaking of Daniel Boone.. if anyone if familiar with the time period. whites and blacks were sold into slavery.. Not all Kentuckians bound to service were African American. By 1790, six per cent of the Kentucky population was composed of white indentured servants. The indenture system held laborers to a restrictive covenant of employment for a fixed period, typically four to seven years. The prime candidates for indentured service in the West were those on the eastern seaboard facing poverty or escaping legal difficulties. Under law, indentured servants were entitled to adequate food, clothing, shelter, and medical care, but many had masters who treated them little better than slaves... http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/award99/icuhtml/fawsp/sp2.html
Reason for my hate toward all the bullshit is the fact you can get nazi, jap, isis, Iran etc flags hand over fist, but the rebel flag is bad and racist! I'd love to be the guy fired over the flag, it would allow me to retire a millionaire! They didn't want to be 'that' company, but now they will have to pay out the ass! No matter what, anything inside or on you're vehicle is private property and freedom of speech to an extent. Like this, it is freedom of speech so the company can take a dig! I visit the south every year, by far the best places are Mississippi, Louisiana parts of Alabama and texas! I have been to the rest and Georgia is the asshole of America. That state is full of racist, dirty lowlife meth trash of all kinds. Might be a few good ones, but for the most part, was like dealing with a state full of people like corky off of life goes on! I can give a shit less if you think I'm racist or a troll. Certain topics piss me off when it's full of bleeding libtard bullshit lies that the hippie bandwagon is on. Fuck them too if they have a problem with a flag.
You already told us all you have a problem with a flag. You're starting to condradict yourself. Too much bullshit, not enough time to keep it all straight?
Daniel Boone was the best. I remember watching the old classic TV series with my granddaddy on Saturday afternoons. I'm sure it was Daniel Boone, Bonanza, The Big Valley and Gunsmoke.
For what? Like I give a shit! That and the fact, your not even fucking American so why would I waste the time.
i miss all my morning show now.. boone, gunsmoke, bonazza. Ive the tevo set to record. but I wont catch up much.. big valley is only on saturady... Victoria Barkley sometimes makes me sick. something about her I cant stomach.. audra is a hottie and I like nick < the dude in black. Heath I dont care much for..
Lol, I mistakenly hit the like button instead of quoting it , my apologies. Yeah, I do admit that I shouldn't have added that. My apologies on that part, it was wrong of me to do that. I was raised to be respectful of other people no matter their skin color but that guy didn't seem to act normal, for lack of a better term. I also happened to remember being almost ran over by a guy on a scooter while crossing the streets and let me tell you, he was going at the speed of light, ha ha! Enough of my rambling and back to the point: What my Confederate may mean to mean may not mean the same to the other person. I don't think they're exactly wrong for thing it means racist. That's the reason the flag was created in the first place. I just want to reclaim it as a symbol of pride. Most people's interpretation of the flag automatically goes to racism and that's fine. That was the sole reason it was created in the first place. However, fast forward to 2015, some claim it as southern pride and that's alright. As long as there's no racist intent behind it, I don't see the problem with it.
When I was a little kid and knew absolutely nothing I had this book with all the flags of the world. For some reason I always thought the confederate flag looked suspiciously British, lol.
You can't reclaim something if it always had another meaning. It's just trying to change something, and I really don't get why that's the symbol you guys chose when it obviously has such a bad history. It's like saying "yeah I know we were a bunch of racist people in the past but let's pretend this is for something else now". Just because a handful of southern people have decided they want it to mean something else now, doesn't mean it ever will. It's still offensive to like every black person out there. I'm sure you could have come up with something that represents the south better. Couldn't your flag be some sweet tea with some crossed fried chicken drumsticks under it, on a background of whatever colour you guys like with the words "southern hospitality, southern pride" at the bottom or something? Thats a better representation of your values than a flag that has always been racist (and probably always will be).
