Hmmm, I live in southern California, so can I get in on some that thar "southern pride" ya'll is talking 'bout?, or is it reserved for only the Confederate states?

Pride to be living in the south. To a lot of us, the south is our eternal home, we feel as if we're one with it. The Confederate flag, though controversial in many eyes, connects all of us southerners no matter which state we live in and it tells us that we're one of them. Forget which sate or country you're born in , once you wave that flag and proudly exclaim that you're glad to be southerner, we'll embrace you with open arms. This is the flag that unites ALL of the southern states(NOT all the people, mind you), it's the one thing we can actually agree on for the first time in history when it was made. It united us, it made us different from any other part of the country, it made us unique with such different values and culture and food. The south is a truly amazing place and a beautiful one too. I hope everyone takes at least one trip around the countryside and just experience how absolutely gorgeous it is. Ah, there's no place like home, as they'd say.
If I see the confederate flag on a home or truck or something, I think "Rednecks" and not somebody I'd hang out with.
As stated many times before, this flag you fly is not the original confederate flag. It is NOT the first flag to unite you guys. It was some weird obscure short lived battle flag. If you are going to argue for something it would be nice if you actually knew the history. If you want a flag that represents what you just said you should be flying this:
Ah, yes, the bars and stars. I absolutely LOVE that flag as well as the other Confederate flags but to me, the Robert E. Lee flag is the most appealing to me. I don't know what it is about it but it just completely attracts me with the designs. That said, I have put the bars and stars as my avatar before except it had the words "Let us alone trust in God". I really do love that flag design but unfortunately it was a bit too pixelated and hard to see so I had to change it. Though, there are Confederate flags that are appealing to me but they don't really stand out to me. I could just look at the Robert E. Lee's flag all day long. To me it's beautiful by itself and there's something about it that just makes it even more special to me. (Sorry for my rambling, I do that a lot)
You are not being logical. First you give us a load about uniting the south and that's what it's means so I show you the one that actually did that and now you are saying yeah but this other one is prettier that's why I like it.
Yes, you are right. I did make a mistake putting what I said out there and making myself look like a fucktard. It's just, that flag, through the wars and blood being shed under it, it does give us a bit of pride. I know you definitely don't want to hear this but people honor their ancestors who fought in the war. The poor farm boys who had never seen life outside the farm much less a black person because they weren't wealthy like those who actually did own slaves. These farm boys didn't know what they weren't truly fighting for and all they knew about it was that the north was attacking the south and they were ready to fight to keep those northerners off their land. I know it seems like a petty excuse to try to defend the Confederacy and those who fought in it but to others, they're seen as heroes, ready to fight for what they believed in, though ill-informed as they were. I fly the flag not only because of southern pride as I said a million times already but to honor those soldiers who died not knowing what they were truly fighting for.
It seems he explained: he starts speaking jibberish and nonsense when he gets angry. That's unfortunate. Although you guys don't have to hang out with eachother at all of course!
Maintaining and supporting all the good stuff is a group effort. What's wrong with using your state's flag? The square version was wideley used with only minor variations, but only by the CSA Army as a battle flag. The currently popular rectangular version of the stars and bars was the CSA Navy version, the rarest one of all. The pic you posted was the first of the three CSA national flags. At a typical Civil War battle, each Confederate regiment would have its own square battle flag, and the general in command would be flying the national flag at his headquarters camp, far behind the front lines. That made it easy for messengers to find the commanding officer.
Here's a company that sells confederate items. These shirts were a fad with the redneck teenagers around here about 15 years ago. They even sell flags. It's such a shame that Pit Bulls were linked to rednecks like this. If asked to coose, I'd choose a pittie every time. http://www.bransondixieoutfitters.com/store/store_sub.cfm?Category_ID=2&Sub_Category_ID=132
Just love it when my grand daddy, Daniel Boone is mentioned. Love it. The flag? Fly it or don't, I don't care. Eddie Izzard is a funny sucker!
I could tell you came from good stock! Edit: That is a racist statement referring to slave selling; isn't it? Good God! I should say, I can tell you have some awesome family history.
Really, Scratcho? Daniel Boone was your grandfather? From an artistic point of view, i think the confederate flag is very pretty. i never cared for the design of our common US flag, and I am talking from just an artistic point of view..Art is so subjective.... rednecks....that is funny, Aeri....seemed like redneck types were waving that flag, when I drove through GA. I don't care either who flies what flag. I don't fly any.
Yup. I have three famous relatives, but I'm not naming the others, 'cuz folks will think-uh-oh--bullshitter aboard! (sorry for the side track--back to the flag) I think those that fly it--REALLY know what it means to them.
Thank you---it doesn't pay to be a bullshitter. Especially around here. Some of these nobs would nail you in a minute!
My opinion as a northern "yank" is that most people who fly that flag have no idea what it really means. The KKK brought the flag out of decades of retirement to protest the civil rights movement. There is a long stretch of history in the south after the Civil War where the flag was uncommon if not totally absent. It's just ignorant to say it's "southern pride". Some people might genunily believe that and not be a racist themselves but it's not true. And a lot of these people who now insist on flying the flag are doing it because Obama said it was bad. He could say water is good for putting out a fire and they would put gasoline on it just because they can't agree with him. There are presidential candidates who have already ruined their chances with their party because they tried to compromise with him. For anyone living outside the USA it might be hard to understand how much some people hate that man. And a lot of that hate comes from him being black himself. There are many other reasons but there are still racists in America and they can't stand a black man being their leader.
