So, when is the U.S. gonna start the air strikes in Syria?

I hope you're not talking to me as a "proud Patriot" or preaching to me about this stuff.
I have stated in numerous (numerous!!) threads how I felt bad for Syria over two yrs ago when MAYBE something could have been done (and how I question the timing of this intervention now..)
and how also ive stated that it was somehow okay that over 100,000 ppl have been killed up until now but oh no.. THIS is the last straw. too much.

And that the U.S. should clean up Chicago, etc., etc.

Anyways, I skimmed your post so I may or may not agree w it all but what I did read.. I agree with.

Oh and I am not, nor have I ever been a "proud Patriot"--- I was born here. I see no reason for a person to be proud to have, by chance, been born anywhere.

    :)

    Thank you!!!

Sometimes I read comments such as the "proud patriot" comment and just wonder what thread some of these people are reading, as it never seems (in those cases) to be the same thread I have been reading.

Then you don't understand the true American. Just because people who have gained power have and are committing vile and treasonous acts does not mean they are the nation, or that a proud patriot has to take pride in said 'accomplishments'. This nation was founded on stamping out tyrants (sic semper tyrannis ring a bell?), and it will happen again one way or another. There is a growing libertarian movement taking place that gives me hope, I would like to see these corporatists voted out of office and gov't shrunk to the point they have a budget for national defense (ie domestic defense), and interstate highways. Tired of all this globalism bullshit.

    Hehe. It's all good. :)

And you know what? That's fine because I don't think you mean you're proud of the U.S. for every single thing it's ever done or think it's ever done anything "wrong"--- I personally feel there are good and bad things about the U.S.- some things worse than some other countries...and some things better...
But the reason I don't consider myself a "proud patriot"--- even about the good, positive things about this country is because, good or bad, I have nothing to do with the history of this country. Good or bad I didn't do it, therefore I hold no personal pride OR shame.
Pride for me is seeing my son turn into an intelligent and loving, kind and polite child because I am raising him to be such things (and obviously I feel proud OF HIM).... so I have something to do with that. But what the U.S. does is not because of me-good or bad.... ya know?

My family fought in the revolution, and every other war up to vietnam. I definitely don't agree with what was done to the native americans, and a lot of other things. And I detest what has become of the gov't and much of the population. But it is still a place that gives the vast majority of us a better life than many other people across the world, what we do with it is up to us. I have hope for this generation to turn things around. That is if our parents generation doesn't destroy the entire world first.

Your nation was founded on the back of a genocide of the North American indians. Then later built on an industrialization of the slave trade beyond what most the would could have ever imagined.

Hmmm , let's see. From clit removal to 911 the religion of "peace" has really surfaced to be evil. The devil incarnate. One of their cheerleaders speaks for native Americans. Big joke. Bhahahahahahah.

It makes me sick to my stomach to be from America sometimes, to be honest. The American government has a long and consistent history of committing atrocious acts, acting as world police, spreading propaganda, misusing money, acting in the interest of the rich, and creating laws that make no fucking sense. We also have no real culture and created the rise of corporatism.

one thing that makes me proud to be an American is we have been and hopefully always will be a nation of immigrants. No matter how fucked up this country is, there are always 50 countries that must be even more fucked up if people would rather live here than there.

The America of today has very little to do with anything that happened before World War 2.

The founding fathers were usurpers of men and human traffickers - They don’t deserve our respect only our pity. They were evil and their descendants’ equally bellicose. they believe they were chosen by god to rule over the lesser races, ha, ha,...right

If you're talking about the big-name famous guys, it would be more accurate to say they tolerated human trafficking, which is almost as bad, but not the same thing. Some were not even involved in taking land from the Native Americans, having been born in long-established colonies and not involved in any way with westward expansion (example: Ben Franklin). Most were more interested in politics than business.

But it really doesn't matter very much anymore who or what they were; they've all been dead a long time. Some (not all) of their ideas about democracy have prevailed, but not their views on race. The whole civilized world rejected slavery a long time ago, and it's never, ever coming back, not anywhere. It's finished. Done. Time to move on.

You don't need to worry about anybody except hardcore racists who are still alive. They might still win a small victory somewhere, now and then. They can still be annoying at times. They can't get any big wins, because they are too small of a minority.

There have always been Americans who were not racists, even in the Old South. John Brown (a white guy) was willing to give his life for the cause of freeing slaves, and he did. He was hanged at Harper's Ferry, WV, after trying to raid a federal arsenal to get enough weapons to start an armed slave uprising. Also, the Quaker churches in central North Carolina were very strongly opposed to slavery, and strongly opposed NC joining the Confederacy. (We were the last state to join, after we were surrounded.) Throughout the war, the town of Asheboro, NC was a haven for draft dodgers who didn't believe in the Confederate cause.

But...moving back in the direction of the original thread topic, it was only after WWII that the US started willingly participating in international conflicts, without being pressured. Before that, we had always been very reluctant.

This morning, I heard that Syria has emptied out most of its prisons, so that the prisoners can be used as human shields at military installations. If we fire missles into these places, they have photographers ready to come in and document our "war crimes" and "genocide". Yeah, they know all about that shit.

This may cause a delay in our activities, as we wait to see how long the Syrians will keep up their high level of preparations for attack.

As for the people in the other thread who said all hippies should always be against every war and military action, I wonder what their plan would be for ending and preventing the use of chemical weapons against civilians. The Syrian government isn't going to magically start being "nice" on their own. There are always going to be a few evil dictators around. Can't just let them do whatever they want.

I am reminded of the Holocaust and the sickening feeling I had inside (years ago) when I felt like we, the US, should have done something about that sooner. Supposedly we "didn't know"...but I still have my doubts about that.

Since we KNOW what is happening in Syria now, I have a very hard time agreeing with those that think we should stay out of it.

I do hope we take our time in deciding the best, most effective plan of attack on the leaders. We need to take a stand against what they've been doing - using chemical weapons against civilians.
