So, when is the U.S. gonna start the air strikes in Syria?

The coverage is not gonna get interesting until they start getting a feel for which way various Senators are leaning, in terms of their vote.

Heard on Channel 4 News Obamas got the support of Speaker (Republican) of House as one of the heavywieghts he needs. There are questions though that other Reps will support a strike on Assad. One Leading Rep' said that he & his colleagues need to see how such an action would be in defense of the USA-the only way they'd support it.

Best guess at present is American voters are split 50/50.

CNN is currently reporting that the great majority of members of both houses still claim to be undecided; quite reasonable considering that the authorization bill hasn't even been formally introduced yet.

Current plans call for the authorization to specifically state that there can be no ground troops sent in.

Last I heard the US people polled against intervention

    http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCABRE97T0NB20130903
"Some 56 percent of those surveyed said the United States should not intervene in Syria, while only 19 percent supported action, the online poll found. Some 25 percent said they did not know what course of action the United States should take."

Everyone call your representatives if you are opposed to intervention. If you are in favor, well, go fuck yourself.

A separate poll of large political campaign contributors would more likely tell us how Congress will vote.

Since France is much closer to Syria, why not just vote on supporting a strike by French military forces.

Nor should it, in every case.

France doesn't have the military capability to inflict the amount of damage required to make any strike worthwhile.

All this talk of "no boots on the ground" is hilarious. There are already boots on the ground.

While the U.S. is ranked #1 in global military strength, France is ranked #6, following #2 Russia, #3 China, #4 India, and #5 U.K.

If the EU countries find Syria to be no threat to their security, what threat does Syria present to the security of the U.S.?

So, what I heard last night was a vote would be today (and was expected to pass), limiting it to "no boots on the ground" and "60 days"

however from what I understand if there are more chemical attacks, the time can be extended and the boots on the ground thing can be changed.
