So, when is the U.S. gonna start the air strikes in Syria?

And those rankings don't really mean much when it comes down to actual capability. France doesn't have the ability to go it alone in any meaningful way.

You're asking the wrong guy man.

Well, that doesn't surprise me but yea that is what they're telling people/saying in order for it to get through congress anyways.

I don't expect anything they say to actually be the truth though. :)

There can be one 30-day extension. No ground troops.

John McCain is now saying he will vote against the authorization because it's too limited. Nothing ever pleases that old fart.

My husband is an airplane guy, and he says the French have a problem with distance. Their air force was built to fight in Western Europe. I don't know if there is a specific reason why they couldn't use our bases in Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Iraq.

It has a lot more to do with distance, I'm afraid. Their size is limited and, as such, their ability to maintain a high operational tempo is not where it needs to be to go it alone. Bear in mind, though, that hey also have an air craft carrier, though its air wing still won't be enough to make any strike truly effective.

Both Greece and Italy are EU member States, and the French do have an aircraft carrier and they can refuel their planes in flight.
And I may be wrong but I think the French have already voiced support of military action in Syria, so why not give them the okay.

McCain ended up voting for it, and the bill now moves to the Senate floor for debate.

Kerry is talking to a House committee now. If their authorization bill gets out of committee and passes the House floor, it will then go to a conference committee where minor differences with the Senate version will be ironed out. Then the final version has to be voted on again by both houses, and then sent to the President for his signature. At best, this will probably take until the middle of next week.

That seems to be a great location.

Conferances. Committees. Senate version. Final version. The president. Typical, isn't it? Meanwhile, everything they want to destroy will be hidden. I sense a clusterfuck in the making.

That's the thing....(and something to really think about and ponder)... they keep saying the president has the power to do this without congressional approval and that most presidents have done similar things without (at least initial) congressional approval... but yet, Obama decides to go this route instead- which, yes, I am aware that some people say is a great idea on Obama's part (I am not saying that... I really don't know what to say to this whole fiasco- other than just that, it is a fiasco...)--- so, yes, he goes this route and it's taking all this time. During this time Syria is moving things and storing things by civilians, etc.
    So, okay?
The point to all this is....? Some things just really seem "off" with this whole fiasco.

    Like a stereotypical old geezer.

I don't think anybody is in a rush to do anything. It's such a damn mess. I just heard one estimate that there are more than 1000 separate militias inside Syria!

That report also said that chemical weapons have been illegal internationally since the end of World War One, and that Syria has signed an international treaty agreeing not to store or use them. Worthless piece of paper.

I think Putin intimidates almost everybody. He's a scary dude. Old KGB guy, you know.

lets get specific i am not talking about the middle east here.

i am just talking about a regimen trying to crush the freedom revolution by all kind of weapons, air stike against cities that asks for freedom and lately chemical weapon.

so as human shouldnt the world try to do something to reduce that regimen forces.

There can never be a guarantee.

Airfields will be hit, along with command, communication, and logistical facilities.

However an intense carpet bombing of entire islomic regions is sounding quite beneficial at the moment.
