As long as the king can't make any decision about me (which he can't) the only thing I have a big problem with is the money they get for just being royal. The tradition can be kept as long as the majority of my fellow citizens feel like keeping it. If that would not be the case I doubt our government or even our king for that matter would be unreasonable enough to go against that. I don't see the majority of the dutch people wanting to abandon this tradition though, perhaps when we get a real loopy one like one of his ancestors.

I kind of assumed that the Netherlands were similar to Britain inasmuch as tourism drawn from the royal family outweighed the cost of keeping that royal family. Is that an incorrect assessment?

Apparently they are not only useful for making money in the way of tourism but also for trade connections with other countries. Ah well, I don't know how much they stimulate the economy but since they are in the first place normal people I don't see why they should get a bigger wellfare check for being the prime nobility of the country. But of course they can be normally paid for their duties like everyone else.

    Hello,

the first time I visited Amsterdam I had a table showing how to pronounce certain Dutch syllables and it made it so much easier for me to navigate the city, to use the tram etc.

    Regards
    Gyro
