The word "Dashboard" predates the automobile. It is derived from the horse-and-buggy days. The carriage had a fender-like board in the front to prevent mud from flying up onto the driver when the horses started dashing. Hence the name dashboard.
that's why i just drive with my arms crossed. i get into a lot more crashes that way, but i'm slightly less injured each time.
If you can move your car out of the way, then it's not inevitable. My original statement is advice from a safety bulettin. I've been in two head on collisions in which there was no time to turn to avoid the collision. I barely had time for a reflex action to brace myself with my hands holding the steering wheel, and feet pressed against the floorboard. Luckily I only had bruising. I can only imagine that folding the arms, when you know you have no safe place to turn, would have to be practiced, lol, like Krav Maga
Giant camels once lived in the Arctic. Giant camel bones have been discovered 750 miles north of the Yukon. Turns out camels originated in North America 45 million years ago. One theory is that they aren't desert animals at all, but evolved to live in the frigid north. The hump isn't for water, but for fat to sustain them through the long winters, large eyes help to see in the 24 hours of winter darkness and the large feet aren't to walk on sand, but avoid sinking into snow. This dude was about nine feet tall.
Still doesnt make sense, the time it takes to turn the steering wheel say 45 degrees would be about the same time it takes to bring your arms to your chest and cross them And in that half second of impending death, who the hell is going to think back to something they read on the internet a couple years before? I call bullshit
That James Andrews Beard wrote an entire book on bread-baking, was self-identified as gay, and was ANTI-sourdough!
Apparently you've never been in a situation, while driving, in which there was no way to avoid a collision. Try to imagine a car coming into your lane on a multiple lane highway, with other cars on either side of you; or a country road with trees, a rock wall, or a drop-off in the only other direction you can turn. A person can see that a crash is about ready to happen, and still have a second or more to realize they are fucked. Who knows if a person can remember advice that they read on the internet, when the have a second to react. That makes no difference. It's still a facr that it would be the thing to do, to increase the odds of decreasing injury in most cases of a head on collision. You woukd be allowing the safety equipment to do its job, and not unnecessarily causing the added damage to arms and legs.
There is a German circus, Roncalli, that uses holographic images of animals instead of real animals, because of animal cruelty in the industry. Looks pretty neat!
In Japan, farmers are using various strains of colored rice to create works of art in their rice fields
